The Archies are a virtual garage band founded by Archie Andrews, Reggie Mantle, and Jughead Jones, a group of adolescent fictional characters of the Archie universe, in the context of the animated TV series, The Archie Show. The fictional band's music was recorded by session musicians featuring Ron Dante on vocals and released as a series of singles and albums. Oct.25, 1969: despite Archie cartoons beiing unknown in the UK, Sugar Sugar is released; it tops UK chart for 8 weeks, selling over 900,000 copies. Earlier in the US: Sept.20 : this song sung by Dante with Wine, tops US chart for 4 weeks, displacing The R Stones' Honky Tonk Women. It will become the biggest worldwide seller of 1969, with over 6 million copies sold...a great song, indeed ! ”
