Sponge was one of the more underrated groups in the post-grunge boom of the mid-'90s. When they were on top of their game -- as on the hits "Plowed" and "Molly (Sixteen Candles)" -- their songs had a knack for jangly riffs and catchy, anthemic hard rock hooks, despite being wrapped in the fuzzy guitars and brooding seriousness of grunge. “ saw sponge a couple of times. once at some club "down the shore" in jersey (got an $80 ticket from the cops for drinking beer in the parking lot - if u can believe.) also saw them in "the city" at Roseland or some place like that. they were good. unfortunately they all looked liked major coke-heads, i.e., super unhealthy. made me feel bad them ”
