Sitting Dove began as an actual dove that landed on the apartment stoop of an unknown Hollywood wannabe. For some reason, this wannabe thought that the dove wanted its picture taken. So he took pictures for about twenty minutes and, oddly, the dove seemed to pose for him. Since then, the artist now known as Sitting Dove has been imperfectly yet increasingly following the inspiration of this dove. His "first wave"—debut album "Blossom" and singles—are a testament to "embracing the doveʼs spirit.” Regardless of what the spirit is, its ethereal, seemingly contradicting flows gravitate toward Hollywood, the 'New World' and matters of the soul.
Sitting Doveʼs debut album was conceived around Halloween 2010 at a recording studio in Santa Monica, CA and fittingly culminated on Friday the 13th (May 13, 2011) with the birth of "Blossom"—the lab mixes. After an encouraging international response to his release of "the lab mixes," Sitting Dove went back to work—partially re-recording and entirely remixing his catalog. He also completed two new singles (Sleaze & Most High Glide) in the process. Sitting Dove sees this "first wave" of work—the Blossom album and singles—as his introduction to and education in the process of making music. Sitting Dove says, "I feel like I've gone to school to study my favorite subject and at the same time been thoroughly schooled in some of the ins and outs of the music business."
Sitting Dove's vocal styles, topical content, and employed beats reflect his wide-ranging influences: 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kanye West, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Everlast, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, Bob Dylan, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Leonard Cohen, Pink Floyd, and many more.
As strange as this impromptu journey may seem to some, nobody is more "weirded out" than the artist himself. Although the concept of Sitting Dove "came out of nowhere and just took over," Sitting Dove can see how his "sorted life has been a strange, roundabout preparation for this very thing." While Sitting Dove grapples with the media simulacrum and our paradoxical New World, he keeps looking for "some answers to go with some flows." As long as he's compelled and able, Sitting Dove says he'll report what he finds.
