From: NY, United States
Julia Barry is a pianist and singer whose songs earn acclaim for inventive melodies, substantive lyrics, and powerhouse piano-playing. A quirky and haunting fusion of jazz, classical, rock, and pop, Barry's songs have been described as "mesmerizing" and "provocative." Her agile, intimate vocals are simultaneously melancholy and sweet, a fusion of gritty (think Tori Amos), wistful (Beth Gibbons of Portishead), sultry (Diana Krall), and luminous (Joni Mitchell).
Barry's debut album, Arrivals (copyright "Julia Rose"), was released independently in June 2002; her second album is forthcoming.
You can catch her performing live on the East Coast, especially in New York City. Check out album info, tour schedule, and multi-media at http://juliabarry.com.
