Imada N. Hutagalung is an Indonesian singing-guitarist. He had studied classical guitar for about 5 years in Yayasan Musik Indonesia (Yamaha Music Foundation) and has been specializing his music in Jazz. He has also learned from books, recordings and music performances to improve his skills. All along his music career, the guitar has always been his main instrument.
He has had his vocal training experiences from the choirs he had been involved in (among them are Paragita Students Choir of Universitas Indonesia and the Twilite Chorus; both were directed by some of the top singing experts in Indonesia). He has also developed his singing style from on-line tutorials as well as sharing experiences with his fellow musicians.
Imada began teaching music by giving private guitar courses in 1997. Then after graduated from Universitas Indonesia in 1999, he began teaching in schools. He started his career as a music performer in 1998 as a guitarist, and since 2001 extended into a singing-guitarist.
Imada also has special interest in vocal a-cappella format. He had joined and initiated several a-cappella groups and actively took parts in arranging the songs for these groups.
Some of the musicians that Imada admires are Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Django Reinhardt, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra. It is from listening to their music where Imada has developed his style today.
Imada is now living as a music performer (performing regularly as well as in events), as a guitar teacher in an international school in Bogor (West Java, Indonesia) and giving private guitar courses. He is also an active songwriter, music director for drama and music arranger for various purposes (in orchestra or ensemble formats, as well as in choir or vocal a-cappella formats).
