About Elvis Costello

Origin: Liverpool, England

Decades: 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, and 2000's

When Elvis Costello's first record was released in 1977, his bristling cynicism and anger linked him with the punk and new wave explosion. A cursory listen to My Aim Is True proves that the main connection that Costello had with the punks was his unbridled passion. He tore through rock's back pages taking whatever he wanted, as well as borrowing from country, Tin Pan Alley pop, reggae, and many other musical genres. Over his career, that musical eclecticism has distinguished Costello's records as much as hi... Read More

A lifelong fan, I once stood outside the Locarno Ballroom in Glasgow in early 80's for over an hour because I was foolish enough not to buy a ticket beforehand. The bouncer eventually took pity on me and let me in to catch last few numbers of his set - well worth the wait! Agree with comment about 'Shipbuilding' but still prefer Robert Wyatt's version - so haunting.

Shipbuilding is my favorite. Sarcastic, cynical lyrics with the most beautiful medley. And his voice! Ahh. I'm so glad I discovered his music early.

A poet. And a playwright 'So like Candy' is a heart wrenching masterpiece. Love to all EC fans. 'Accidents will Happen' was my favourite track as I studied for my English degree

Saw him at Bracknell Leisure centre about 1978. Not looking forward to geeky guy in specs. He blew my head off. 'Watching the detectives' Awesome. A poet and lyricist.
