From: Canada

Canadian singer/songwriter from Stephenville, Newfoundland.

With a voice described as “white sand,” Tanya Alexander finds her way deep into the heart of a song and brings it home to her audience.

Tanya began singing around the time she started walking, wailing along with the likes of Marty Robbins, Charlie Pride and Patsy Cline. She’s been honing her talents on a variety of stages on the Atlantic Canadian music scene since 1995, when she joined with three other Newfoundland and Labrador based musicians to form the quartet Shy Mary, based in St. John’s. The jazz/folk band enjoyed a strong following in the capital city, receiving invitations to perform with CBC Radio, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the World Music Sound Symposium, among other notable venues. The band received critical acclaim for their debut album Shy Mary, released in 1997 and Tanya was nominated as Female Artist of the Year by MusicNL.

Ushering in the new year in style, Tanya released her first solo album that harkens back to her country and western roots. She wanted to pay tribute to those gorgeous old tunes she grew up with – those by Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard, Hank Snow and more. Plus Tanya and co-writers have created some finger-snapping and heart-wrenching originals you must hear. The album is getting great reviews and lots of radio play!

Most recently, Tanya was nominated for MusicNL Country Artist of the Year and was invited to perform in the awards show with other headliners such as Ron Hynes, Kim Stockwood and Ashelin.
