until one truly suffers,
experiences both mental and physical anguish,
one will not fully appreciate all that life is and can be,
nor does one comprehend the unfathomable power that is love.
where do all these friends keep coming from?.....and going for that matter?
'O progeny of heaven, empyreal thrones !
With reason hath deep silence, and demur,
Seiz'd us, though undismay'd : long is the way
And hard, that out of hell, leads up to light :
Our prison strong; this huge convex of fire,
Outrageous to devour, immures us round
Ninefold : and gates of burning adamant
Barr'd over us, prohibit all egress.' --------Milton, Book II Paradise Lost
'Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the rest
Falls the shadow'--------------------T.S. Eliot, The Hollow Men
'do you know the warm progress under the stars,
have you been born yet and are you alive?' ------- -Morrison
'To see a World in a Grain of Sand,
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.' ---------------------Blake
'If you stare too long into the abyss, the abyss will stare back into you.' -Nietzsche
Well it's 9th and Hennepin,
All doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes.
And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky
like a tarp thown all over this.
And the broken umbrellas, like dead birds
and the steam comes out of the grill like the whole
goddamned town's gonna blow.
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
and everyone is behaving like dogs.
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
and Dutch is dead on his feet
and the rooms all smell like diesel and you take
on the dreams of those who have slept there.
And I'm lost in the window,
I hide on the stairway,
I hang in the curtain
and I sleep in your hat.
Nobody brings anything small into a bar around here.
They all start out with bad directions.
And the girl behind the counter
has a tattoo tear,
one for every year he's away, she says.
Such a crumbling beauty....
ah, there's nothing wrong with her that $100 dollars won't fix.
She has that razor sadness
that only gets worse with the clang
and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by,
As the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
till you're full of ragwater and bitters
and blue ruin,
and you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen.
And I've seen it all,
I've seen it all
through the yellow windows
of the evening train.--------Tom Waits
'after the first death...there is no other'----Dylan Thomas
'death smiles at us all, all a man can do is smile back'----Marcus Aurelius
'i woke up in a soho doorway,
a policeman knew my name.
he said, 'you can go sleep at home tonight,
if you can get up and walk away.'
i staggered back to the underground,
and the breeze blew back my hair.
i remember throwing punches around
and preaching from my chair.....
well, who are you?
i really wanna know...
tell me, who are you,
cause i really wanna know!'--------------The Who
see, that's the real question, goddamnit.....'who are you?'
don't worry about me, love................who the fuck are you?!!
and what in the hell are you doing here?
well, go on then...answer me....
" To love is to risk not bein' loved in return....to hope is to risk disappointment...but risk must be taken because the greatest risk in life, is to risk nothin'... The person who risks nothin', sees nothin'....has nothin'..and is nothin'...he can't learn,feel,change,grow,love... he barely lives.... ”
be careful here....at one time a fantastic new invention, now the medium of choice
of most governments to program and control the people....right down
to what kind of paper you use to wipe your ass.
exercise caution if you own one...."use" the television....don't let it "use" you.
oh, and if you decide to have children , be especially careful. they will guilt you into buying each and everything you can imagine.....(in the best interest of your children of course), lest you be a bad parent. ha!....consume, consume, consume....it's really quite sad.
"did you know we are ruled by t.v...?"------morrison-1968
i love films almost as much as i love books...a fantastic way to tell a story. but it's a trade-off here...we're talking apples and oranges....you can't get what what you get out of a book...not really, however.....one small scene can represent so, so much, and you can't get that in a book either. it's a visual thing, like the way two people look at each other, you see? either way, i am a film junkie, no doubt about it.
too many to list...maybe authors are a better idea here....?
