20 March 2012 -- West Coast -- Spring is Here!

Dear Amigos, Friends, Lovers, Fellow Artists, the solstice is extra special tonite, as Venus and Jupiter conjunct in our Earth's sky. Mars on my sky's left brightens and inspires and in a way, nudges energetically and quietly to recognize. To see, as sometimes I forget, how wonderous is our world and reality. Yeah, much sadness or defeats, or delays, but I'd say there's 10 (or more) to every One of those stumbles. As the Circle of Keys in music, so are the Seasons, each has its purpose and segues from the one before, beautifully. So, Forward on my friend, think Ascension, think Inspiration, and thank the Creator gave us gravity as well as consciousness as well as criticism. Only Fall in Love (or again) this New Year, as Spring is here.

The chill made me realize how powerful Mother Nature's ways are, again. Finally, the little fish of the world are gathering and "pushing back" against the sharks and barracudas (big biz & their store-bought pols. in our legislative houses). There's a whiff of the 60s, and its about time. I read that hundreds of cities throughout the globe organized their own Occupy _X_ demonstration this weekend. GREAT! Had a dream a couple of nights ago but can't remember much of it. I just know it was fine, vivid but not of the In-your-Face type. It didn't have any commercials, no name brands, no buzz or pimps shoveling their tired wares, and hardly any repetition. I saw a familiar face in the dream, I won't lie or exclude that fact. T'was a good friend who once extended her hand to me and the moment encouraged me to oblige. As much as dreams have the power of spiritual energy that cannot be measured or contained, in our current world, distance is still described by miles (or kilometers, depending where you're from). And sadly, still don't own a jet. And morning comes quick to dissolve that awesome, beautiful impression ... i had of you.

NEWS FLASH! Every family I know (mine included) has a member who has been unemployed for many months. Or knows someone who has lost his/her home. Or knows a US Veteran who served honorably and is now homeless, in poverty, or without medical care. Why is this happening? What about our humanity? How and why should we tolerate more than 25 million in this country unemployed? It's time to march, demonstrate, and support especially the brave youth in the U.S., our sons and daughters, as we press the 1% who control our lives, that we matter, we're the other 99% and there's gotta be a change. Today, November 11, 2010 is Veterans Day in the US. I joined up soon as I turned 18, caused I believed. But many of us didn't come back. I miss you all, will never forget you. I ache for the day when the human family will bury all weapons and no more war will make widows, widowers, and orphans of our loved ones. I salute you, soldiers past and present!

The Fall is the favorite time of the year. Get to run around in t-shirt or shortsleeves in day, then hit the town at night with a light jacket or sweater. Makes one think of how the "harvest" is doing, whether you meant and did what you promised or not, and if nudged by an early Norther, gives you a few more weeks to complete what you started in the Spring. ... just thinking.

Tristeza en Diciembre -- Soul sister Cesaria Evora passed away today, December 17, 2011. Since I first heard her crystal-clear voice, so bluesy yet so ringing and uplifting, I would turn my eyes to the sky, up because I would swear I was listening to an angel. In Spanish, Portuguese, or her language as spoken in Cape Verde, Cesaria would find her songs in the several progressive jazz, World Beat, or Folk musical programs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Lucky for those of us who lived a stone-throw 'cause we could easily tune in as Cesaria and dozens of hitherto unknown "acts" wafted through our speakers. Was doing lots of volunteer media work back then, in the 90s, writing releases, speeches, event ads for peace/justice groups. Cesaria would "keep me company". Human rights advocacy is itself a tough road, at times hugely unpopular when many around one don't want to know ... how the world really turns. And who toils in terrible conditions, to "turn that world". I never met Ms. Evoria, yet I know her people through my people -- poor workers of the world. Who in spite of dire, exploitative conditions, their heart and soulful celebration of real live will never be defeated. On the contrary, Cesaria's voice and music encourages, or as we say, Anima! Very little to say. Still waiting for the Delta Breeze to cool our sizzling city in northern california. We're about 100 miles from downtown San Francisco but what a difference the Central Valley makes -- its about 30 degrees cooler in The City, so you're luckylucky if you're right there, next to Golden Gate ;)

aahhhh... well just a little aside here in Jangolandia ... thought I'd go through all the "contacts" on my page and really, really get serious about not hearing from many folks. I have to admit I don't take a little tilme myself to give out a Shoutout or greeting to the fellow Jangoists here. Like many people here in the US, there's great mobility occurring in recent years, folks moving in and moving out. Changing jobs, changing minds, changing spouses, changing attitudes. Perhaps the sharp social environment generated by a flailing economy nudges persons to "get going". I don't know. I miss the little villages of my youth but enjoy the giant cities, warts and all. Just keep me away from towns in the middle.

Annnnywwwaaay ... what differentiates a "contact" from a "friend" in my little book of insignifcant theory or practice, is at least One hello or goodbye a month. Otherwise, we're still like those tiny stars in the sky: brilliant, lovely, unique, but separated by too much. So, I agree with my friend Andrea. Finally had a chance to look up the lyrics to a favorite song that I heard here in Jango first by a great group/musician originally from Tennessee: Citizen Cope. There's a story in there, within the lines and the apparent, simple verses. I like everything about the song and Mr. Greenwood knows how to join verse and melody very well. December 20, 2010, Monday night: Lunar Eclipse tonight was beautiful. Today is also the beginning of Winter = Winter Solstice, actually Dec 21st, and here in Northern California, we were able to see it quite vividly. And was awesome because its been raining and cloudy for almost a week but tonight it cleared up before the next storm. I tried to take a photograph using my Canon but alas, I need a better lens, way better like a telephoto lens powerful enough. Perhaps Santa's gonna bring me one hehehe... The next lunar eclipse coinciding with the Winter Solsice beginning happens in 2094! God is Great!

Surf a 25 foot wave in Makaha ... hahaha ... i wish, j/k. I'll settle for 3-4 foot waves in any of the open beaches in southern cal. But to visit the Hawaiian islands is def something i'm interested in.

John Lennon is one of the musicians and artists I derive a lot of inspiration from. So, I salute John and his fellow bandmembers in the Beatles. He was gunned down in New York City 30 years ago today, December 8. I was working a second job as a janitor cleaning an empty industrial medical clinic, near midnight near LA, when I got the news from the DJ woman on the radio. Since it took me about 3 hours to clean the place everynight, I would hookup the PA system to that FM rock station to break the tediousness. As the DJ was lining up the records to play for the next set, she would talk about the Beatles and Lennon, and the broadcast went blank. She came back composed in a few seconds, and said it would hard to keep doing her job... then she burst out crying and said Excuse me... I can't do it. She left the station, the sound engineer took over and played out the John Lennon songs and Beatles tunes she had cue-ed. It was a sad time. It was hard for me to finish my job that night too, but I did. And drove home to Long Beach, tired and discouraged. John L wasn't a perfect person, who is. But some songs are perfect, as he wrote them, as he performed them. Lennon Lives!

16 November 2010 ... What an interesting group, The Shins. Their guitars, vocals/harmony, and upbeat rhythms on a pretty cool song "Australia" are very nice. The lead singer voice and phrasing has uncanny resemblance to Paul McCartney in some parts. they write their own stuff. Gotta check out more recent stuff. 2 November 2010 ... Elections in the US. What's new, not much, we're stuck with two parties barely distinguishable from each other. Parties of the millionaires, the powerful, and still trying to wage war with too many other lands. We badly need a "Department of Peace", the age-old energy wasting, creativity sapping, aggresive forlorn and displacement of regular people continues on. What happened to the Peace Corps?? We should've bailed out the people and their homes instead of the *$&% banks. But 3rd parties are severely limited by law state by state. Very tough environment for pluralistic input by all the people. We shall overcome! in the meantime, there's some fine music to enjoy. I like listening to the timeless songs of Velvet Underground and its main man -- Lou Reed. Yeah, they've been silent for nearly 40 years but I heard a good one tonite: "Candy Says" I give it a 5 out 5! ~nite nite all!

No way, this here Jango is always working in awesome manner. Like today, I just see blanks in the space where the Listeners Photos are supposed to be. What? Just guess that my friends are online too? OK, who needs photos anyway, huh.

We got room for another complaint? oh OK, here's a little bitty problem, and you are SO right, let's not quibble with the small s**t... ok. BUT, why can't I click on any individual songs that my friends are currently listening to? what....? oh yeah, I forgot, why have song names under non-existent photos. You're right, skip this complaint. what?? go with the flow... I see. But... how come all the ads are working JUST RIGHT all the time and can even stop the next tune on the station? OK, OK, you're right again, 15 years ago there was no web or user-directed music players. I forget, I forget :)
