About Me

20 March 2012 -- West Coast -- Spring is Here!

Dear Amigos, Friends, Lovers, Fellow Artists, the solstice is extra special tonite, as Venus and Jupiter conjunct in our Earth's sky. Mars on my sky's left brightens and inspires and in a way, nudges energetically and quietly to recognize. To see, as sometimes I forget, how wonderous is our world and reality. Yeah, much sadness or defeats, or delays, but I'd say there's 10 (or more) to every One of those stumbles. As the Circle of Keys in music, so are the Seasons, each has its purpose and segues from the one before, beautifully. So, Forward on my friend, think Ascension, think Inspiration, and thank the Creator gave us gravity as well as consciousness as well as criticism. Only Fall in Love (or again) this New Year, as Spring is here.

MMMMMMmmmmm ... SPRING SOLSTICE ...

A rebirth of effort, of hope, of steadfast conviction, of the strengthening of bonds between hands & hearts who possess and want, love. For a few hours or days, venerable Creator, keep the cynics and ill designers of abject power at bay. The heart continues its birth, getting past the 500 years of money-changer royalists OF ALL STRIPES. There's no kingdom "down here" or "up there", nature knows no such artificial separation. She only warns you that every Solstice, especially the one which thrusts beyond dry and drenched earth -- Spring solstice -- , each brother and sister's soul is stirred ... to the sounds of love, rebirth, and the eternity of color. Thy perfume won't allow me to forget. God is Great! March 20, 2012, California

The Lunar New Year began, on Monday 23 January 2012, at beginning of the new moon. My son was fortunate to be born in a prior Year of the Dragon, he is an artist and a good human being. I wish all of you everywhere a good year, of excellent music, fantastic memories, and kind treatment from one to all and all to one. !Viva el Dragon!

January 8, 2012, Sunday, just thinking, why yahoo & social media & the gossip mills seem to spew endless streams of ... ummm ... glimpses of what we used to call TV, vast wastelands in the culturescape. Try this in your spare time, ladies & gentlemen:

If you want to understand a country's national life, review what its people are reading, viewing, or listening to, "this week". Google the life, death, and marital woes of its 10 most widely "followed" artistic, political, and "high-net-worth" celebrities.

Last Week, the writings picking up. Get it while u can, I guess ;)

Ramblings past midnight with big glass of beer, no chaser, and jango's still not working; lucky I still got my pen. So, trying my hand at ghostwriting for a traveling pastor. The man's gotta deliver a sermon but can't find the words, can't get the scripture right. How's about -- Finding a Purpose in Life Isn't Possible Without Knowing What Your Mission Is. He told me, I don't understand what you're saying, Alex. I told him, I know. Well, now no bucks comin in for the week. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. MAY 2012 BE GENEROUS TO YOU AND THE SPECIAL PEOPLE AND LIVING THINGS YOU CHERISH. ~ alex

Cesaria Evora

:::: que triste -- how sad is today, soulful singer Cesária Évora, went to the spiritual realm today, December 17th. I have her picture gracing my page profile now. I write a personal tribute further, in "Interests". My condolences to this great singer's family, friends, fans, and Cape Verde people :( ::::

DECEMBER 2011 IS SURELY ONE SPECIAL MONTH

The whirling winds of winter came early in California and other parts of the West Coast. 'course, our winters don't compare with those in many parts of the country or globe. The chill made me realize how powerful Mother Nature's ways are, again. So, in December 2011, I welcome Mother's message and reminder that -- To be humble, to be in tune with the rights of all living things, is to know grace. It might be a bit harder in this current heavenly line-up with Mars occupying the home of Virgo, but humility may help us all. Or, as one famous jazz and R&B songwriter/artist quaintly put it in a song of the 60s:

"... I could be president of General Motors, baby, or just a tiny grain of sand..."

November is a fascinating month, always lots to inspire. Many close family and friends tap November as their birth month. Been thinking about them all lately. Thinking of you. Pulled out this old song from years gone by. Shoulda named it Re-affirmation. ahh, but its best to leave one's "done" paintings, sculptures, and songs alone. So, here's the plain, unadulterated tune, same title, but spiritually updated for you (and me) LOL ... I'm cuttin & pastin, hope it formats right :::sigh::: I'll play it for you someday ...

More Reasons to Laugh Than Cry

1. Blues, yeah, get them once I a while,

Nothing that your kind, warm touch won’t calm,

Or the wisdom, understanding of your loving eyes,

That touch my soul.

2. Your caresses and your simple ways are mighty fine.

I’m saying got more reasons now to laugh than cry.

Blues don’t ever, ever, never see the light,

Of even one more day.

Chorus

How are we to know or say what money buys,

Fools run fast in circles seeking diamond mines.

Do blues outlast them?

Do blues outlast them?

I’m saying love’s the reason I made up my mind.

Ain’t no bed of roses, baby but the fit’s just right.

The blues keep moving,

The blues keeping moving on.

3. Once a year we’re asked to count the many ways,

Recite worn, musty words locked into yesterday.

Rather end each day by saying, Girl I love you,

Glad you’re here today.

? Repeat chorus and fade –

On SUNDAY 16 OCTOBER 2011 -- WHAT'S UP WITH THE BROTHERS & SISTERS? Music, marching, & huddling closely together to keep warm. Let's call it "warming up" to participatory democracy. For those jango friends who have asked, here's a bit more info. It's all over the web, if not in your hometown. Cheers & Viva La Huelga! ~alex

The Occupy Wall Street Movement is growing and thats good news. Finally, the little fish of the world are gathering and "pushing back" against the sharks and barracudas (big biz & their store-bought pols. in our legislative houses). There's a whiff of the 60s, and its about time. I read that hundreds of cities throughout the globe organized their own Occupy _X_ demonstration this weekend. GREAT! Hats off to artists & musicians who help out and offer their own grains of sand to this movement: Rage Against the Machine, Michael Moore, Alec Baldwin & many more. Here's a couple of cool headlines & articles or sites you may want to peruse:

From Tahrir Square to Times Square: Protests Erupt in Over 1,500 Cities Worldwide

Posted Oct. 16, 2011, 1:08 a.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Protesters banged drums and chanted after police pushed them out of a New York park Sunday, marking the 30th day since the outcry over income disparities started.

Occupy Wall Street protesters spilled into nearby streets as riot police circled a fountain and stood guard at entrances leading to Washington Square Park.

Demonstrators wandered into the night, chanting "We are the 99%" and "This is what democracy looks like."

From Wikipedia:

Occupy Wall Street is an ongoing series of demonstrations in New York City[5] based in Zuccotti Park, formerly "Liberty Plaza Park". The protest was originally[6] called for by the Canadian activist[7] group Adbusters. The group has compared the operation to the Arab Spring movement (particularly the Tahrir Square protests in Cairo, which initiated the 2011 Egyptian revolution) and the Spanish Indignants.[8][9]

The participants of the event, who have called themselves "the 99 percent",[10] [11] are mainly protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed (like corporate welfare), and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns.[12][13][14] By October 9, similar demonstrations had been held or were ongoing in 70 major cities and more than 600 communities.[15]

Monday 10 October 11

Had a dream a couple of nights ago but can't remember much of it. I just know it was fine, vivid but not of the In-your-Face type. It didn't have any commercials, no name brands, no buzz or pimps shoveling their tired wares, and hardly any repetition. I saw a familiar face in the dream, I won't lie or exclude that fact. T'was a good friend who once extended her hand to me and the moment encouraged me to oblige. As much as dreams have the power of spiritual energy that cannot be measured or contained, in our current world, distance is still described by miles (or kilometers, depending where you're from). And sadly, still don't own a jet. And morning comes quick to dissolve that awesome, beautiful impression ... i had of you.

NEWS FLASH! Every family I know (mine included) has a member who has been unemployed for many months. Or knows someone who has lost his/her home. Or knows a US Veteran who served honorably and is now homeless, in poverty, or without medical care. Why is this happening? What about our humanity? How and why should we tolerate more than 25 million in this country unemployed? It's time to march, demonstrate, and support especially the brave youth in the U.S., our sons and daughters, as we press the 1% who control our lives, that we matter, we're the other 99% and there's gotta be a change. Check it out for yourself, our big news media companies are not covering it. Check it all out for yourself, get a poster, spread the common peoples' news:

On Music ... play ok guitar, write some, and though there's great music now and throughout the 20th century here and in the Americas (all of them :), I have a special thing for the 60s stuff, due to its free spirited innovation! 'course, I like all kinds of dancing, its in the Latin blood hahaha ... that's a stereotype, gotta watch that. Anyways, drop me a line on other things, if u wanna know. !ciao!

September 7, 2011. 75th Birthday today of BUDDY HOLLY -- rock n roll innovator from Texas who died way too early.

From Wikipedia:

Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll."[1] His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Eric Clapton, and exerted a profound influence on popular music.[2] Holly was among the first group of inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.[3] In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Holly #13 among "The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time".[4]

Today, November 11, 2010 is Veterans Day in the US. I joined up soon as I turned 18, caused I believed. But many of us didn't come back. I miss you all, will never forget you. I ache for the day when the human family will bury all weapons and no more war will make widows, widowers, and orphans of our loved ones. I salute you, soldiers past and present!

The Fall is the favorite time of the year. Get to run around in t-shirt or shortsleeves in day, then hit the town at night with a light jacket or sweater. Makes one think of how the "harvest" is doing, whether you meant and did what you promised or not, and if nudged by an early Norther, gives you a few more weeks to complete what you started in the Spring. ... just thinking.

The trek from Texas to California is done, thanks for the Welcome Backs ... Tristeza en Diciembre -- Soul sister Cesaria Evora passed away today, December 17, 2011. Since I first heard her crystal-clear voice, so bluesy yet so ringing and uplifting, I would turn my eyes to the sky, up because I would swear I was listening to an angel. In Spanish, Portuguese, or her language as spoken in Cape Verde, Cesaria would find her songs in the several progressive jazz, World Beat, or Folk musical programs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Lucky for those of us who lived a stone-throw 'cause we could easily tune in as Cesaria and dozens of hitherto unknown "acts" wafted through our speakers. Was doing lots of volunteer media work back then, in the 90s, writing releases, speeches, event ads for peace/justice groups. Cesaria would "keep me company". Human rights advocacy is itself a tough road, at times hugely unpopular when many around one don't want to know ... how the world really turns. And who toils in terrible conditions, to "turn that world". I never met Ms. Evoria, yet I know her people through my people -- poor workers of the world. Who in spite of dire, exploitative conditions, their heart and soulful celebration of real live will never be defeated. On the contrary, Cesaria's voice and music encourages, or as we say, Anima! Gracias, mi amiga Cesaria por tanta musica y una alma que nos hablo de tu vida y gente. ~alex 12/17/2011

Wikipedia:

Cesária Évora (Portuguese pronunciation: [s??za?i? ??vu??]; 27 August 1941 - 17 December 2011) was a Cape Verdean popular singer. Nicknamed the "barefoot diva" for performing without shoes,[1] Évora was perhaps the best internationally known practitioner of "morna."

Cesária Évora – Cize to her friends – was born on the 27th August 1941 in Mindelo, Portuguese Cape Verde. Her bright voice and physical charms were soon noticed, but her hope of a singing career remained unsatisfied. A Cape Verdean women’s group and the singer Bana both took her to Lisbon to cut a few tracks, but the recordings failed to catch the ear of a producer. In 1988, a young Frenchman of Cape Verdean extraction invited her to Paris to make a record. At 47, she had nothing to lose. Having never seen Paris, she agreed and her first album was released later in the year: La Diva Aux Pieds Nus (The Barefoot Diva) produced by Lusafrica. The zouk-flavoured coladera “Bia Lulucha” is a hit with the Cape Verdean community. She gave her first concert in Paris to a small crowd at the New Morning on the 1st October.

..... COMING UP! ......

On October 9, 2011, many of the globe's artists and musicians will honor the memory of John Lennon, of the Beatles. That's his 71st birthday. I was reflecting how relevant Lennon's message of peace and justice for all. He was a rebel and protested and marched against the Vietnam War, against the lopsided criminal justice system, and for Power to the People! In New York City and other large US cities right now in September, youth and rebellious 'older' people LOL... are rebelling too, against corporate greed and bankers who use our public monies for their bailouts. Well, John Lennon's activism is still alive!

OCCUPY WALL STREET! Anywhere in every city, you can demonstrate and voice your opinion. Right now, September 17th it started, and it has spread! Go to YouTube and search for the coverage. Google "OccupyWallStreet.org" now.

Lennon's still alive in the Music sphere influencing younger musicians. Still alive in the peace and justice movement in the US and throughout our world. Take a look at our fellow youth protesting in NYC right now in OCCUPY WALL STREET to call for economic democracy for all of us 99% who are regular workers and real families and have seen youth's future severely short-circuited by the bankers and greedy corporations. You can see Lennon marching and shouting alongside the US Youth! ”

Hows that for a cool combination: 7 / 7 / 11 ? And thats what today is July 7th.

Very little to say. Still waiting for the Delta Breeze to cool our sizzling city in northern california. We're about 100 miles from downtown San Francisco but what a difference the Central Valley makes -- its about 30 degrees cooler in The City, so you're luckylucky if you're right there, next to Golden Gate ;)

aahhhh... well just a little aside here in Jangolandia ... thought I'd go through all the "contacts" on my page and really, really get serious about not hearing from many folks. I have to admit I don't take a little tilme myself to give out a Shoutout or greeting to the fellow Jangoists here. Like many people here in the US, there's great mobility occurring in recent years, folks moving in and moving out. Changing jobs, changing minds, changing spouses, changing attitudes. Perhaps the sharp social environment generated by a flailing economy nudges persons to "get going". I don't know. I miss the little villages of my youth but enjoy the giant cities, warts and all. Just keep me away from towns in the middle.

Annnnywwwaaay ... what differentiates a "contact" from a "friend" in my little book of insignifcant theory or practice, is at least One hello or goodbye a month. Otherwise, we're still like those tiny stars in the sky: brilliant, lovely, unique, but separated by too much. So, I agree with my friend Andrea. It makes all the sense in our little world to wave at neighbors and friends. Why not, life's too short. Salut to all :)

HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME 2011 ! The Summer Solstice begins today, y'all -->

Summer begins in the Northern Hemisphere on June 21, 2011, at 1:16 P.M. (EDT). The word solstice comes from the Latin words for "sun" and "to stop," due to the fact that the Sun appears to stop in the sky. The Sun is directly overhead at its most northern point at "high-noon" on the summer solstice, creating more sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere on this day then any other.

On the solstice, we also hit the longest day of the year. From here on out, the days begin to get shorter.

Like a lotta guys raised in the South (or the West, or North, or East, hell anywhere's good to get dinged with a broken heart), u and ur compadres go to the nearest dive or icehouse and drink barrels of beer. After one such episode in my simple life, I wrote this one. totally blues but out of respect to the east texas soul boys, i left some room for a weepin slide or pedal guitar. or a honkytonk upright, whatever, whoevers around at 3am after they kick u outta the place.

FORTY LONELY HOURS AGO

(c) Pajaro Productions 2011

1. Woke up the other morning calling your name,

Searching through my dreams has just been in vain.

Forty lonely hours ago you were in my arms all night.

2. As the cold, wet morning bites into my face,

I pull my jacket closer to keep out the rain,

But feeling warm inside makes no sense when you’re cold and lonely.

Chorus

Who’s that sitting with the tall dark stranger,

You know you can’t leave her,

You know you can’t change her,

Cause she’s just a woman,

And you’re just roomin’ with mystery.

The whole world’s waiting for your love to be found,

You know you can’t be living if she’s not around,

Perish the thought that you bought a piece of history.

Instrumental of verses 1 and 2

3. They’re talking about the hard times comin’ this way,

The boys in the factory will sure find a way,

But what can you do when your heart is cold and lonely?

The Big Heavies of the astrological skies, Jupiter and Saturn begin their cyclical difference of opinion on March 28, 2011. Our solar system's largest planets begin their Opposition, pretty much affecting our little planet, in the swishing around process. Anyone out there in Jangoville gots any clue how the last cycle colored our world?

In struggle and resistance there's a friction heat produced between New and Old, before the Phoenix rises. Don't ask me where I heard that, probably in some song by the Grateful Dead... LOL

March 1, 2011

A couple of things:

Sometimes we bump into a kindred soul,

Just when you're out there camping,

Trying to light the fire to keep away,

The cold, the bugs, and Sierra Nevada mountain cats.

But the matches were left behind on the kitchen counter,

And many moons have passed where striking flint,

Just right will produce a spark to get it going.

Good thing the forest attracts other cool souls,

And offers a match.

Without the hand that helps to strike the matchbook,

The night would be long, cold, bereft of inspiration,

Much less to hum a song together and play,

With the images of wonder and awe in the Sierras.

~~~~
Finally had a chance to look up the lyrics to a favorite song that I heard here in Jango first by a great group/musician originally from Tennessee: Citizen Cope. There's a story in there, within the lines and the apparent, simple verses. I like everything about the song and Mr. Greenwood knows how to join verse and melody very well. Here are the words to the song, Off the Ground. Have a great day, y'all! Happy March, Spring will be here soon!
"Off The Ground"
Life's ride down the river
Everyday getting clearer
All the while getting nearer
We all belong
This place we've been delivered
Take the good with the bitter
Some may dismiss you
We all belong
When you and I
Were so far
We were so far
Away from here
All my life been gambling times
Been evading mines
Away from here
And the roads they'll take you down
And the winds will sweep your feet off the ground
And the wheels they won't turn around
On that road that leads outta town
I've found
When you and I were so far away
We were so far
Away from here
VALENTINE'S DAY February 14, 2011: I'll toss out this proposal and would feel great if it somehow reached our UN reps, let's sponsor a St. Valentine's Decade of Friendship and Love. We have enough exploitation, hate, guns, prisons, and batons to supply the universe for the next century. Love among the human family isn't in such similar supply.
hmmmmm..... HERE'S WISHING THE PROUD AND NOBLE PEOPLE OF EQYPT THE BEST AND WHOLLY SUPPORT YOUR SELF-DETERMINATION. The few Egyptians I know here are fine persons. I hope to visit your country some day, there is so much to learn and history there. I know the pyramids of my ancestral home -- Mexico -- very well. I wish to explore your historical sites. IN HUMILITY -- MAY THE CURRENT DIFFICULT SITUATION BECOME AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH AND BENEFICIAL RESULTS FOR ALL PEOPLE OF EQYPT.
December 20, 2010, Monday night: Lunar Eclipse tonight was beautiful. Today is also the beginning of Winter = Winter Solstice, actually Dec 21st, and here in Northern California, we were able to see it quite vividly. And was awesome because its been raining and cloudy for almost a week but tonight it cleared up before the next storm. I tried to take a photograph using my Canon but alas, I need a better lens, way better like a telephoto lens powerful enough. Perhaps Santa's gonna bring me one hehehe... The next lunar eclipse coinciding with the Winter Solsice beginning happens in 2094! God is Great!
John Lennon is one of the musicians and artists I derive a lot of inspiration from. So, I salute John and his fellow bandmembers in the Beatles. He was gunned down in New York City 30 years ago today, December 8. I was working a second job as a janitor cleaning an empty industrial medical clinic, near midnight near LA, when I got the news from the DJ woman on the radio. Since it took me about 3 hours to clean the place everynight, I would hookup the PA system to that FM rock station to break the tediousness. As the DJ was lining up the records to play for the next set, she would talk about the Beatles and Lennon, and the broadcast went blank. She came back composed in a few seconds, and said it would hard to keep doing her job... then she burst out crying and said Excuse me... I can't do it. She left the station, the sound engineer took over and played out the John Lennon songs and Beatles tunes she had cue-ed. It was a sad time. It was hard for me to finish my job that night too, but I did. And drove home to Long Beach, tired and discouraged. John L wasn't a perfect person, who is. But some songs are perfect, as he wrote them, as he performed them. Lennon Lives!
Dec. 6, 2010 ---> WISH I WOULD'VE WRITTEN THIS SONG! From the Velvet Underground (Lou Reed), I dunno around late 60s. The melody is soooo fine. And so are its lyrics:
CANDY SAYS
Candy says I've come to hate my body
and all that it requires in this world
Candy says I'd like to know completely
what others so discretely talk about
Candy says I hate the quiet places
that cause the smallest taste of what will be
Candy says I hate the big decisions
that cause endless revisions in my mind
I'm gonna watch the blue birds fly over my shoulder
I'm gonna watch them pass me by
Maybe when I'm older
What do you think I'd see
If I could walk away from me
16 November 2010 ... What an interesting group, The Shins. Their guitars, vocals/harmony, and upbeat rhythms on a pretty cool song "Australia" are very nice. The lead singer voice and phrasing has uncanny resemblance to Paul McCartney in some parts. they write their own stuff. Gotta check out more recent stuff. If you're a Shins fan, let me know what u think, k?
10 November 2010
Listening to Citizen Cope (the band and its leader so named) and excellent mix of various music currents (rock, r&b, some hiphop, minimalist rap, folk-like lyrics that give u the msg, and great beats.). The song is: Off The Ground check it out someday.
2 November 2010 ... Elections in the US. What's new, not much, we're stuck with two parties barely distinguishable from each other. Parties of the millionaires, the powerful, and still trying to wage war with too many other lands. We badly need a "Department of Peace", the age-old energy wasting, creativity sapping, aggresive forlorn and displacement of regular people continues on. What happened to the Peace Corps?? We should've bailed out the people and their homes instead of the *$&% banks. But 3rd parties are severely limited by law state by state. Very tough environment for pluralistic input by all the people. We shall overcome! in the meantime, there's some fine music to enjoy. I like listening to the timeless songs of Velvet Underground and its main man -- Lou Reed. Yeah, they've been silent for nearly 40 years but I heard a good one tonite: "Candy Says" I give it a 5 out 5! ~nite nite all!
I dedicated the same upon his high school graduation years ago. The singer may be controversial, but one can't ignore his artistic legacy.
Complaints:
No way, this here Jango is always working in awesome manner. Like today, I just see blanks in the space where the Listeners Photos are supposed to be. What? Just guess that my friends are online too? OK, who needs photos anyway, huh.
We got room for another complaint? oh OK, here's a little bitty problem, and you are SO right, let's not quibble with the small s**t... ok. BUT, why can't I click on any individual songs that my friends are currently listening to? what....? oh yeah, I forgot, why have song names under non-existent photos. You're right, skip this complaint. what?? go with the flow... I see. But... how come all the ads are working JUST RIGHT all the time and can even stop the next tune on the station? OK, OK, you're right again, 15 years ago there was no web or user-directed music players. I forget, I forget :)
