I'm an ex-pat living & working in central Bangkok. I teach English at an all-girls Catholic high school.
I'm originally from San Francisco, California USA. I was one of the originals who brought punk to California in the mid-70's. We had many incredible bands & artists who blew through our little town at a dizzying rate. They played at local clubs like The Mab (Mabuhay Gardens), The Old Waldorf, The Stone, etc.
It was a colorful and very social scene. We had our own local heros like The Avengers & The Nuns. We cruised the thrift stores & Salvation Armys looking for cast -off clothes from thhe 50's & early 60's.
I have seen 90% of the bands I listed. They each contributed something special to the airwaves & music as you know it today.
My new wife & first baby girl born-name:Patience. Online chess (gameknot-user id-rhinohouse)
NBA basketball on ESPN & TNT. The News on BBC.
Film Nois from the 50's & 40's, especially detectives & cops. Westerns like "Silvarado" & "The Great Northfield, Minnesota Raid. Sergo Leone, Samuel Fuller, Fellini, Kubrick. Last great film I saw-"3:10 to Yuma" w/ Russell Crowe. Last film I saw was "Elizabeth-The Golden Age"w/Kate Blanchett.
Now reading "Elizabeth"(historical biography about Queen Elizabeth I)by David Starkey. I love historical biographies about people who shaped history & our world as we know it today. I also enjoy the detectives like Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammet, Michael Connelly, Robert Frost's poetry and classic novels on Penguin. But these are very hard to find here in Thailand(Thais are pretty illiterate and could care less). Best book I ever read was "Catcher In The Rye" by J.D. Salinger.
