Weekend was an immediate off-shoot of Young Marble Giants, the post-punk band known for their lone influential LP, Colossal Youth. Songwriter and guitarist Stuart Moxham formed the Gist, while singer Alison Statton formed the jazzier Weekend with Simon Booth.
