"I Am Human", the debut album by the Belgian-born, Brooklyn-based singer with a unique, soulful sound and retro flair, drops worldwide in Spring 2014.
Her artistic vision is all about the real – everything from ILSE’s voice to the instruments on the tracks is raw, honest, and bold. Influenced by ‘60s and ‘70s and with an ear to the club, ILSE’s sound blends the best of the old with the most exciting of the new. ILSE brings music back to where it should be: fun, funky, sexy and soulful. With its cinematic quality and undeniable charm, ILSE’s sound transports your imagination to another world. This is music made for everyone. This is music for you to feel. This is music made to bring people together.
“Living On A Cloud,” ILSE’s first single from her upcoming album, has become a big success since its online release last July. The buzz is an enthusiastic one – listeners think that ILSE’s sound is “quality” and “reminiscent of the sixties,” like a song from “a classic James Bond soundtrack.”
“I Am Human,” the second single from ILSE’s upcoming album, shows a different side of ILSE's unique story. Her sultry, otherworldly voice is transformed into one that is vulnerable, courageous, and unmistakably human. Born without her left arm, ILSE has overcome a distinct set of challenges to find her voice in today’s music industry. ILSE is unafraid to be herself, and she sings about vulnerability and finding strength through love from a deeply personal perspective. In "I Am Human," ILSE recounts her determination to stay true to herself and her vision, reminding us that “standing tall” after “going through it all” is no small victory. This new single -- and ILSE's overall message -- is about finding the strength to push past the obstacles despite pain and despair, because to assert oneself proudly in the face of adversity is the ultimate triumph.
ILSE says of her new single:
I wanted to express my most vulnerable feelings on the title track "I Am Human." I wanted to create music that is real and honest. While I was going inward, into my own story, something magic happened in the studio. The song created such a strong connection between me, Nate and Juliette…an unexplainable feeling took over and the song became bigger than us. We barely dared to touch it. It was so fragile and yet so strong. We all felt that the piano and the overwhelming, breath-taking feeling created by lush strings conveyed the emotions behind the song.
Meeting a strong visual team was such a blessing as well, directed by the young genius Darío Calmese, who was able to express all this vulnerability in a such a powerful visual way that moved me and the cast to tears on the set of the music video. I am so grateful for this incredible experience and hope it can connect many people across the world…we are all human. I hope this song will tear down walls, inside ourselves and in between each other. I hope it will lead to more understanding and love and expressed through compassion and a more "humane" attitude towards all living beings.
