DeMattos, the man with a versatile style, alternating between upbeat rhythms with piercing vocals and heartfelt melodies, has spent many years creating and delivering musical renditions moving audiences far and wide.
DeMattos is the last of 6 boys and 3 girls. DeMattos began his musical foundation at the tender age of five years old with the acoustic guitar and then the piano at six years of age. His mother Evanghn DeMattos dubbed his vocals a "voice of grace" and inspired him to reach higher. He followed in his father's footsteps by learning key instruments in developing his voice and musicianship.
Taking his talent to the next level, DeMattos began composing for other artists in the 1980s and further then attended University and the Royal School of Music. On both occasions DeMattos received awards in the form of certificates successfully completing the programs.
DeMattos has shared the stage and worked alongside several national and international artists in the music industry including Mark Brian, Iauwata, Family Teach, Gregory Isaacs, Devon Irie, Taxi Band, Byron Lee, Sparrow, Arrow, Lord Nelson, Shadow, Byron, Karen Richardson, Dbi Young, Al St. Louis, Humble, Jenny Laws, Kim Davis, Donna Makeda, Hajile, Strong, Promise, The Storm, Aria, Heron Jones and more…
In the early 90s, after five years of touring the Caribbean and North America as lead guitarist, DeMattos migrated to Canada and continued his musical journey by forming his first musical group, Shock 'N Colour and then later on Xtra.
DeMattos continued to write and perform original songs using the inspiring influences of Stevie Wonder, Third World, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse and John Holt to inspire these creations.
DeMattos has since composed and produced several project albums for Canadians as well as international talents ranging from poets to rappers such as: Toronto Poets’ Love Peace and Freedom, Yannick Marshall’s Afrikan Redemption, Al St. Louis’ Reflection of my Soul and Heron Jones’ Life Eternal.
Audiences with a varied appreciation of music relate to DeMattos’ lyrics about life, peace, freedom, spiritual love and righteousness. His talent is a gift from the Creator and it is a joy and life’s mission to share his music with the world. DeMattos has travelled to his homeland, to promote his music and music in general. Reggae fans can expect upcoming releases from Mr. DeMattos in 2009.
