During the sweltering Georgia summer of 2002, four musicians, each in separate cars, each coming from separate places, meet at the intersection of a dusty country road. Unfortunately, this meeting was none other than the infamous four-car pile up that, tragically, took the lives of a family of guinea hens who were innocently crossing the road that cloudy summer afternoon. Upon arrival, the county police were forced to use the Jaws of Life to extract the surviving instruments from the musicians' vehicles. Then, the four musicians began walking east with their guitars and bass drum hanging by their sides. As the evening sun began to set on their backs, they began to hum a little diddly... “wicky wicky, woodly woodly, gunk gunk, a chica whah“... and so it began.
After a multitude of lyrics, rhythms, bridges, and the occasional psychedelic break down, it was time to choose a name. First, they called themselves “The John Does”, but they soon discovered another band with a label had already took this mightily original name. Reluctantly, they changed their name to “The Jane Does”. Then one night after a show, a fan stalked them through the streets of Atlanta. After a short chase and few calculated high-pitched screams, the fan was heard in the distance yelling out, “Hey, I just wanted to say ya'll are some short bastards!”. Like a bolt of lighting shooting through the air, the bands name struck them like destiny... Vertically Challenged.
