Vancouver rock act, The Thick of It create a sound that is melodic and heartfelt. Their music relays messages of hope, courage, struggles with the dark side of life and the triumph that can come out of being honest with oneself.
TTOI are experienced musicians that come from a credible rock background. Members include Garth (vocals) and Rob Wade (drums) formerly of JAR/Flybanger (Columbia/Sony 1996-2001) who gained international notoriety with hits like “Weapon" & "Cavalry" which are still heard on commercial and internet radio today. Rounding out the lineup is guitarist Michael Johnston (Killrhythm 2005-2009), Russ Bergquist (former Annihilator bassist) and guitarist Alex Roque (Fallen Phoenix).
Collectively, members of TTOI have previously shared the stage with diverse acts such as COC, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Sevendust, Filter, Judas Priest, Tool, Finger Eleven, Machine Head, Cypress Hill, Nickelback and Default during Flybanger's run. As well, former tour highlights during the Killrhythm project included being chosen as the opening act for Godsmack at Vancouver's PNE Forum Summer ’07, showcasing at the 2009 Junos, and playing XFest '08 with 3 Doors Down, Theory of a Deadman and Puddle of Mudd.
While working with Killrhythm, Garth submitted songs to FACTOR and received a demo grant for songs he'd written on his acoustic guitar. The demo sessions would eventually become The Thick of It band resulting in the 5-song "Destroyed" EP recorded at Ear Art Music Studios by Producer Tim Neuhaus (State of Shock, Burning Borders). Singer Garth’s trademark growwwl coupled with melodic vocal harmonies, riff-rockin’ guitar tones, searing solos and thunderous bottom-end are a fusion of some of The Thick of It's influences including Alice in Chains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica and Pantera.
In the summer of 2009, TTOI entered Nimbus School of Recording Arts owned by famed producer Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne) to record tracks for their debut full length 2010 release entitled “First Day of Death”.
Garth sums up meaning behind the title track. "It's a hard & heavy song that tells the story about courage and overcoming one's weaknesses. The song is about the first day of your new life and the last day of your old life. It's about having the courage to take a positive step to be who you really are." With their self-financed album recently completed including the artwork created & designed by TTOI's own Rob & Michael, The Thick of It look forward to sharing their music with their longtime loyal fans and meeting new fans & friends when they hit the road Summer/Fall 2010.
