The Rubys are a Six-piece Indie Rock band from Manchester. They comprise of:
LEE HUNTER : Vocals
BARRY KIRKWOOD : Rhythm Guitar
TAT SING KONG : Lead Guitar
Kevin Barry : Keyboards
MIKE HAMILTON : Bass Guitar
DAVE EARLAM : Drums
Formed in 2010, the band have released two EPs on digital download and CD formats (2010s’ “Sun” EP and 2011s’ “The Fear” EP).
“The Fear” sold 2000 downloads on iTunes in support of, and officially endorsed by, the national domestic abuse charity, "Refuge".
The debut Album "Limelight Parasite" has already exceeded 3000 downloads, and has been received with critical acclaim both here in the UK and in America.
Appearances at the inaugural FOMFEST and Collaboration Festival’s are included in a variety of headline gigs in 2011 including The Manchester Academy, Jabez Clegg, Dry Bar, and Night & Day. This is in addition to support slots at The HMV Ritz with The Rainband, FAC251: The Factory with Supajamma, and The Deaf Institute with Steve Pilgrim.
Radio Presenters and Indie Rock Bloggers have described The Rubys as “reminiscent of early Manic Street Preachers”.
Live and recorded appearances on BBC Introducing, North Manchester FM, Wythenshaw FM, AllFM, Manchester Radio Online, Beatwolf Radio, RedShift Radio and reached number 1 with their track "After All" in Philadelphia on the drive time download chart, which have all helped build a strong live following to compliment a strong online presence.
The Rubys played Future Perfect 3 in Castlefield on May 12 2012, preceding the debut album launch of LIMELIGHT PARASITE at The Ruby Lounge on May 19.
The Band have recently signed to Affinity Entertainment for UK and Worldwide Distribution and licensing of their new single "Shake You Free" which they will debut on the 28th September at launch part in manchester.
