The Oyster Murders are an Australian alternative / dream pop band formed in Brisbane, Australia in 2008. The band is fronted by founding member and lead singer/guitarist Grant Redgen; along with his partner Wendy James (vocals/keys), Shaun Edwards (drums) and Chris McPherson (bass).
Heavily influenced by the densely layered guitar sounds, and strong melodic vocals produced by the 90’s and now.The music straddles a wide variety of genres whilst still maintaining the eerie sweetness, characteristic of their sound.
The beginning of 2012 was spent working with multi ARIA award winning producer Lachlan ‘Magoo’ Goold carefully crafting their ambitious long-player Winter of the Electric Sun. Upon the release of the album, the band accepted an invitation to play the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. Subsequently the band's LP received airplay on over 100 college radio stations in the US, featuring singles ‘It Might be Real’, ‘The Water in Your Blood’ and ‘The Sleeper’s Heart’.
At the conclusion of the bands U.S. trip the group began working on new material and soon returned to the studio in early 2013. The resulting recordings, being the bands soon to be released EP Mourning Birds. For this release the group built on their existing sound and took inspiration from bands as far ranging as The Flaming Lips and early Smashing Pumpkins through to Galaxie 500 and David Bowie. The first single ‘Disaster Flower Bloom’, encapsulates the darker brooding style of the band but is also contrasted with the groups dreamier pop sensibilities. The EP is due for release in late September 2013.
