The Hollyberries is the pet project of Kip Brown (www.facebook.com/kipbrown), guitarist and founding member of one of L.A.'s original 1970s pop-punk bands, SHOCK ("This Generation's on Vacation").
Brown formed the Hollyberries in 2009 primarily as an outlet to release a Christmas song he'd written entitled "(I Wanna Go) Surfin' With Santa!" Reminiscent of classic Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, but featuring 1960s Girl Group-style female lead vocals, that tune garnered considerable praise right out of the gate and has been called everything from a "fun little slice of holiday bubblegum surf" to an "irresistible, effervescent piece of pop" to a "new Christmas classic."
A follow-up single, "(Let's Have a) Surfin' Christmas Holiday," was released just in time for the 2010 holiday season, and featured Kip along with another rotating cast of guest players, including special guest appearances by former groupie and best-selling author Pamela Des Barres ("I'm With The Band") and Jonathan Paley of The Paley Brothers. (UPDATE: A new, improved version of the tune, featuring female lead vocals and some cool Beach Boys-style rhythm guitar, was released in 2012 under the "(C'mon a) Surfin' Christmas Holiday!")
The Summer 2011 release "Boards & Bikinis Rule (Down at Malibu)!" broke with the Christmas tradition for the first time, and introduced a more pronounced Ramones influence, guitar-wise. Of course, it didn't hurt that the track was mixed and mastered by longtime Ramones producer and engineer, Ed Stasium!
And NOW, just in time for Christmas 2012, comes "Santa's Supersonic Flying Rocket Sled," featuring lead vocals by new Hollyberries, sisters Alyssa (11 years old) and Jo Anna (13 years old), plus a very cool bass track by the great Prescott Niles of The Knack (of "My Sharona" fame)! Written, arranged & produced by Kip. Available NOW on iTunes and Amazon.com (mp3).

Some wonderful reviews for "(I Wanna Go) Surfin' with Santa!"
"Set firmly in the style of early 60's...everything about this recording is bitchin, boss & primo!! The production is top notch, well recorded and mixed. The lyrics are a delight...This will make a wonderful new addition to your Christmas tunes so get your copy today!! (Besides, the band needs to buy more wax and gas for the woodie.)" (bongolong at bongobells, 11/19/09)
"Surfing and Christmas have gone together going all the way back to the Beach Boys and Surfaris...Coming in strong for Christmas 2009 is this note-perfect surf-pop-rock tune by a band with an Oscar-winning name (a reference to Academy-Award-winning actress Halle Berry). Composer, performer and producer Kip Brown combined with singers Caron Maso Murray and Michele Maso Tinsley, all of whom previously worked together in the 80s band The Little Girls, to create this perfect snapshot of a sunny Southern California Christmas in the mid-60s...Perfect mix disc bait." (Rudolph at www.Mistletunes.com, 11/19/09)
"I Wanna Go Surfin' With Santa is real sweet...Brand new and spotless...I hope they include it in the endless barrage of ancient Christmas songs that have just started leaking out of every speaker everywhere...Thank you and your group for the fresh new addition...Very Californ-eye-yay...I Love It...No Doubt!...MBW..." (Marlowe B. West)

re: HipChristmas.com review - "...well deserved I might add, having heard this jolly-go-lucky piece of holiday cheer!" (Pamela Des Barres, Best-Selling Author, "I'm With The Band" and member of legendary all-girl band, The GTOs)
FLASH!!! Just received word from legendary radio personality DR. DEMENTO that he will be playing "(I WANNA GO) SURFIN' WITH SANTA" on his radio program airing SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29, THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. That show will then be available online 24/7 starting November 30, at www.drdemento.com. THANK YOU, good Doctor!!
Reminiscent of classic BEACH BOYS and JAN & DEAN, although with 1960s GIRL GROUP-style female lead vocals, the tune has been called a "fun little slice of holiday bubblegum surf," and was recently hailed on iTunes as a "new Christmas classic!! Clean, tasty and fun, fun, fun!"
"(I Wanna Go) Surfin' with Santa!" was written, arranged and produced by KIP BROWN, a fixture on the L.A. music scene and a longtime member of THE LITTLE GIRLS, a SoCal pop outfit perhaps best known for their rolickin' hit, "Earthquake Song." The Little Girls featured the distinctive EVERLY BROTHERS-like harmonies of sisters CARON MASO MURRAY and MICHELE MASO TINSLEY, and it's those smooth sisterly vocals that are back in action on "(I Wanna Go) Surfin' with Santa!"
"(I Wanna Go) Surfin' with Santa!" also sports a very cool cover design by MARK LONDON, who is perhaps best known for his work with former Beach Boy BRIAN WILSON, which includes both the CD and DVD graphics for Wilson's legendary "SMiLE" release.
"(I Wanna Go) Surfin' with Santa!" is the debut release on Kip's new independent record label, BANANA LOUIE RECORDS, and is available for download on iTUNES, AMAZON, and other fine internet music sites. Get yours TODAY! (click here)
