THE FOUNDATION

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia both Shawn Brooks and Jason Harris come from musical families which has been passed on for generations. Both participated in many different styles of music from gospel, jazz/soul to hip-hop. It started back in 1995 when Jason’s brother seriousness regarding getting into the music industry really made an impact. From that moment on they practiced everyday for years. They got good at formatting hooks and runs and creating that “swag” and that signature sound which is The Foundation.

Life was hard back in the 90’s. They worked hard, constantly being told to keep at it and that soon they will be where they want to be. In spite of true sorrow and despair due to the death of Jamal A. Harris, the group didn’t know what they wanted to do for years. In 2000, the decision to pick up where they left off awakened Shawn and Jason and thus began anew. With both families struggling, the determination became a focused goal.

Shawn Brooks and Jason Harris are still working on their first single. “Born Ready” is the name of the new CD. The single off this CD is “Take Your Time” or “Roses” . “ We feel that it is important to tell the world especially if you are in the street-life to ‘Take Your Time’ with everything you do in life. It’s a must. The world shall listen to our music closely. It says a lot, especially the chorus which means a lot in every song.”

Their rhymes, the beats, the words - those words!. Absolutely wonderful. The use of the electric piano is used perfectly in all their tunes. You hear the deep sound which creates the seriousness of the song - you hear the high pitch notes which creates almost like a “ Halloween” sound . I love it! Then there are songs like “ Roses” , so off the route to their other songs. But a treat to listen to this up beat tune - so ready to move your body to. That positive energy flows - let it FLOW!!
