The Crossing has had their eyes on Irish and Scottish tradition from their beginning in 1984 and have never looked away. In fact, they sidled up to the tradition and wrote their own songs and tunes to fit seemlessly along, even from their "unceltic" home, the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Northern Ireland was in trouble at the time, as was that of rough street life in Uptown, and both are reflected in their music. The members of the Crossing, having met through all of their volunteer work with the innercity mission Jesus People USA (www.jpusa.org) and its shelter, CCO (www.ccolife.com), felt a connection with the beautiful music born of harsher times. But in the true celtic tradition, stories are told, related to, and then alleviated with a joyful tune and some good ol' crossroads dancing. So forwarding to present time, the Crossing are still at it, bringing the tunes and storytelling - and more joy! - always with an open line to the Three in One. If saints Patrick and Columba and Aidan could have had a band, we're pretty sure they would sound just like the Crossing. We hope you enjoy listening.
