Tabajara Assumpção is a singer, songwriter and guitar player. Originally from São Paulo city, he began his music studies at the capital’s Conservatory of Music and Drama studying classical guitar. Later, he studied classical singing at the São Paulo Municipal School of Musical. Despite his classical training, Assumpção preferred to follow the path of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), having become interested in important Brazilian musical movements such as Tropicalismo, Bossa Nova and the 1970s avant-garde scene in São Paulo.
In his new work, the musician pays tribute to São Paulo, the city where he was born and raised. "Sampa Samba" features original compositions, inspired by samba and bossa nova, samba rock, samba jazz and samba funk. The city serves as an inspiration to the mixing and eclecticism, trademarks of his unique musical style.
The musician's first CD, "Tabajara Assumpção e Banda Spray no Ouvido", an independent production released in 1998, was identified with the sounds of São Paulo's vanguard of the 1970s. Then and again in "Sampa Samba" the musician uses his eclectic style and mix of distinctive Brazilian sounds to express his unique musical roots.
