Having signed to acclaimed Irish indie label Reekus Sweet Jane released their debut album, ‘Sugar For My Soul’ to superb reviews in 2010. The following year they toured America and Asia taking in major festivals such as SXSW in Texas, and Music Matters in Singapore, while the many festival appearances at home included Oxegen and Electric Picnic . Other highlights that year included being invited by Suede as guests on all three of their Olympia gigs in Dublin.
Sweet Jane are noted for their great sound and superb songwriting. In the past year songs from from their highly acclaimed debut album ‘Sugar For My Soul’ have won comptitions to be included on the soundtracks of shows by leading US companies such as MTV and Activision / Blizzard at leading industry festival Midem, while in January 2012 they beat off more than two thousand international entries to win a competition run by NBC Universal to have their music included on the soundtracks of shows such as Being Human. This is what NBC said of their music: “ Sweet Jane have beautifully haunting vocals as well as wonderful driving hooks that make them a perfect indie rock candidate across the board. Their submissions were diversified and all would fit within a majority of our shows”. At home, Sweet Jane’s songs have been synched frequently in TV shows such as Kitchen Hero and RAW.
And Sweet Jane are a great live band - this is what leading music magazine Hotpress had to say about a recent gig in Cork’s Crane Lane: “There are elements of shoegaze in Sweet Jane’s schtick, with waves of guitar carrying the music forward , but they have a harder rock core. Chanelling the Velvet Underground, The Byrds and the Stone Roses, they mix melody and guitar attack with superb effect, with songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Danda Paxton masterminding the band’s big sound superbly. They go down a storm”.
Sweet Jane are guitarist/vocalist Danda Paxton, Neil Paxton keys/guitar/backing vocals , bassist Ruairi Paxton, and drummer Donagh O’ Brien.
The band are currently in the final stages of mixing their second album with leading producer Pat McCarthy, known for his work on five REM albums, as well as Madonna’s ‘Ray of Light’, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, among many others.
Their first single from the new recordings, I Wanna Be in Love, is getting play on all major indie shows, and will be available on all leading digital sites and from www.reekus.com from October 26th.
