Way down in the Lone Star state of Texas along the Mexican border, on the southern tip of Texas where one might envision the sun beaming down on crusty parched ground, where the dust flies from an old beat up pickup truck barreling down a bumpy dirt road with a couple of good ole boys in cowboy hats and boots listening to George Strait blaring on the radio, where the terrain is dotted with green prickly cactus and horned toads scamper aimlessly across the heated surface and where the only escape from the blistering sun is a thorny mesquite tree next to an all but dried up muddy cattle tank. Welcome to the home of the rock and roll band, “Sidewinder of Texas” (SoTx)! Sidewinder of Texas features Raul Garcia – vocals, David Valdez - guitar & vocals, Rey Ybarra - bass & vocals, and Paul Pederson - drums & vocals. Influenced by music and artists over a broad era from the 60's through the 90's, Sidewinder of Texas’ sound and style evolved into a unique distinctive original blend of what they passionately refer to as “Texas style Rock and Roll”. Their songs and lyrics cover the gamut ranging from love gone bad to the current social and political state of the nation. The south Texas Rock n Roll band, Sidewinder of Texas, was founded in August of 1984 by guitarist David Valdez and drummer Paul Pederson. Performing in various other bands yet, never together, Valdez and Pederson, joined forces under simplistic common ground which was their shared passion for high energy Rock n Roll music. Influenced by music and artists over a broad era from the 60’s through the 80’s, Sidewinder of Texas' sound and style evolved into a unique distinctive original blend. As a trio, the band’s trademark sound is based not only on Valdez’s ability to literally shred on the guitar combined with the broad full tone, clarity, and wall of sound coming through his amplifiers yet, his technique, approach and conviction as he plays. Pederson’s approach to the drum kit is complimentary to Valdez’s blazing guitar work. Along with sharing lead and backing vocals, he is able to provide a solid foundation while, simultaneously, incorporating the chops to accentuate the bass lines and Valdez’s blistering guitar riffs.

Throughout the years, Sidewinder of Texas has built a following starting from their home base in Brownsville, Texas playing local venues and onward through their extended travels performing in every setting imaginable from the club stage to the concert stage. Sidewinder of Texas has performed on more than one occasion at the South By Southwest Musical Festival in Austin, Texas and has been featured in various other showcase events across the state.

In 1989, Sidewinder of Texas released its own self titled debut record featuring such crowd favorites as Dreamers, Cruisin’ On the Levee, Ready To Rock, and Flyin’ High which received FM radio airplay in select markets across Texas and Mexico. In 2012, My Country, with its patriotic title track of the same name expressing the concerns of the general populous of their disgust and misguidance of the government was released on the private label, Cactus Curtain Music on CD and digital download. In 2014, the re-mastered “Sidewinder” was released on Cactus Curtain Music on CD and digital download.

Sidewinder of Texas has always been a dedicated supporter of charity and non-profit organizations. They have contributed their time and efforts in performing benefit concerts for such causes as The Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, Toys For Tots, American Cancer Society, United Blood Services, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Campaign For A Drug Free America. Also, they were featured as the house band for several episodes of a local south Texas television talk show.

Although the core of Sidewinder, Valdez and Pederson, has never changed, other members have come and gone along the way. Returning to the lineup in 2012 is original bassist, Rey Ybarra. Ybarra brings back to the band his friendship, chemistry, and his exceptional talent with a rock solid yet, spicy style on the bass guitar. Along with the bass, he brings his talents as a vocalist as well. Ybarra’s exceptional ability in moving around the fret board provides the third and final element to the recipe for the distinct Sidewinder sound.

Also, returning to the band is original lead vocalist, Raul Garcia. Garcia's searing and powerhouse vocal style as heard on the original Sidewinder album is a treat to any fan of hard rock.

Music is merely an expression of a multitude of emotions, personality, and experiences brought forth and conveyed through instrumentation and voice. From the club stage to the concert stage and all points in between, Sidewinder hopes to see you sometime soon!
