Born in St. John's to Newfoundland's beloved folk rock singer/songwriter for Lukey's Boat, Laverne Squires, Selina has merged her natural ability for songwriting with unique musical influences from the 60's. Self-taught in guitar, Selina began as a solo act playing at various venues in St. John's in 2005. In 2006 she created the five-piece band "Full Day Ahead" and played in virtually every main venue in the city. In 2008 Selina released her single "Orphan" to help raise awareness and funds for the group "Bring Me Hope" and the song was later featured on the AAMP compilation CD in 2010. Both her songs "Orphan" and "Hero" were ranked among the Top Ten in the Newfoundland and Labrador section of the National Songwriting Competition and have been featured on mass media such as NTV, OZFM, CBC, K-ROCK and CHMR. Selina has gained confidence as an artist and stage presence by performing both locally and away from home in places like the quaint cafes and clubs of Manhattan and Woodstock, New York. Most recently, Selina can be found in Calgary, AB collaborating with other musicians and performing locally. She released her new EP "Defined is Confined" in August of 2011 and it has already received a great response. The first track on the EP ("A Man Riding a Donkey") has been selected to appear on the iTunes "AMAZING "compilation e-album featuring Dan Hill and other well known artists in order to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Her EP is now available on selinatunes.com, iTunes, Amazon and where ever else music is sold.
