Considered by many to be a musical Renaissance man, Ricky Luis, singer, songwriter, arranger, producer and self-taught musician, began making his mark at a very young age. Influenced throughout the years by a wide variety of genres such as Salsa, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop and even Opera, Ricky has developed a unique style that has since been impacting people on an international level. After 5 years as lead singer of the Latin GRAMMY Nominated group N’Klabe, Ricky Luis has decided to individually pursue a path on which he can express to the world on a more personal level who he is, as an artist and as a man, with no restrictions and no barriers.
Ricardo Luis Porrata was born on October 28, in Chicago, Illinois. His introduction to music took place in his community church when he was four years old. At age 15, he along with fellow musician friends formed a salsa group called Ricky Luis y su Orquesta, winning several awards and receiving airplay on local radio stations. When 21, he moved to New York City to audition for the Manhattan School of Music to study opera, but was quickly discovered by Latin music industry veteran Jose Díaz. Ricky’s life from there on took on a dramatic change, for he had been chosen to become the lead vocalist of Puerto Rico’s young sensational salsa group N’Klabe.
During his 5 years with the group, N'Klabe was nominated in a multitude of categories for several prestigious Latin music awards including: Premios Lo Nuestro, Latin Billboard awards, and Latin GRAMMY awards. Having recorded four studio albums under major record labels Sony BMG and Universal Music Latino, the group received constant accolade and worldwide acceptance performing at venues all across the globe.
Now armed with artistic maturity and years of valuable experience within the music industry, the bi-lingual artist is ready to share with the world his passion and energy for music as a solo act. He is currently working on his highly anticipated debut album, Out the Box, which will consist of songs composed and produced by Ricky himself. It is the most intimate work of his career thus far, giving his audience an up-close glimpse into his world. When asked to make any final comments regarding his new production, Ricky simply stated, “I'll just let the music speak."
