Mr. Whit is parent-friendly, kids’ music from the songwriting team of Nick Stephens and Mark Whittaker. Inspired by artists like Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley and Laurie Berkner, Nick and Mark have found a genre of music that reaches out to kids, ages 5 to 50. With songs like “I Want That”, “Homework Blues”, “Cardboard Box” and “Are We There Yet?”, Mr. Whit has found common ground for which kids and their parents can sing, laugh and jam out to the same songs.
Mark Whittaker is an elementary school teacher, who is continually inspired by the minds of his students. Mark cannot play enough music and, each day, his kids go home singing a song. His favorite sound in the world, is hearing the whole room singing. On the side, Mark teaches guitar to kids, adults, anyone who wants to learn to play and, most importantly, to love doing it.
Nick Stephens is the song man. Nick has been writing songs, poems and stories for over 30 years. Inspired by storytellers of all genres and generations, he has found a story to tell with Mr. Whit. Nick is an IT professional who applies his creativity to web design to local businesses and other musicians.
Writing songs about a child’s desire to have what he or she wants with “I Want That”, can be translated to every parent’s desire to have what they want. Songs about the sorrow of doing homework when you want to play with “Homework Blues”, finds a common ground among all students. A parents wish to provide the best gifts for a birthday boy or girl, yet the box it came in provides all the entertainment needed, is understood with the song “Cardboard Box”. “Monday Morning (It’s Summertime!)” is a song about the first Monday of summer, when kids are off but parents still need to go to work. And the very familiar theme of long road trips with the family and the repeated question “Are We There Yet?”, always hits home.
Mr. Whit is coming into your home, one song at a time, and will eventually find the theme that you will giggle to. At the same time, you will have the hardest time not singing along, as their motto is “Everyone Sings With Mr. Whit!”
