All this goes into the depth and poetic passion delivered by the Michael Tracy Band."- Rock Hill Herald (6/7/13) -
Michael is a singer/songwriter who has been building buzz in Charlotte, NC as a passionate & soulful Rock/Blues artist; combining powerful, memorable riffs with thoughtful, poetic, and at times haunting lyrics. He caught the eyes and ears of Grammy award winning, veteran producer/engineer Bruce Irvine during the summer of 2011. Michael went to work and with Bruce's skillful touch on final engineering released his debut 12-track album "Enough Small Talk" in November of 2011. Michael is now currently rolling out his new CD release "Red Sky"...which is available exclusively at his website.
With the latest success of Rock/Blues artists like the Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Jack White, and the Drive-By Truckers; it would appear that the timing is ripe for an artist like Michael Tracy. While Michael's music reflects all of his different musical influences -70's rock, blues, Seattle grunge, country and Southern Rock - it are his Dylan-like, thoughtful lyrics that tie all of his songs together. Timeless messages often laced with social commentary are delivered with a powerful, soulful voice that is uniquely his own. "I'm a writer first with something to say, a message or story to tell; then I go about trying to incorporate the best music to deliver that story without limiting myself to a specific genre"
Michael first learned to play on an acoustic guitar at the age of 5, and all of his life he has been a passionate lover of music; however, until 2011 at the age of 42 he had never played an electric guitar, composed a song, worked in a studio, or performed on a stage. After a lifetime of aggressive reading, study, and contemplation Michael determined that the time was right to pursue his lifelong dream of writing his own material. While he set out writing poetry, short stories, and collecting ideas for a novel, he found himself often turning to his guitar for comfort and inspiration. "During that time I had decided to become much more proficient at the guitar. I found myself creating my own riffs, which led to creating and singing words over the music." Realizing that he had some legitimate songs, Michael set out to local open mics to test them out. Immediately he got noticed among local musicians and songwriters so he cut some demos and began marketing them on Jango radio. Realizing that there was a "market" for his music, Michael jumped "all in," embarking on a full-time music career. "Success does not come in half-measures and hesitation. I left my well-paying job, spent my life savings, accrued debt, and with great discomfort entered into a very public arena. I try to never lose sight of the fact that in the end its all about the songs. They either will or will not carry me forward. I've soaked in so many experiences over the last year and every day I just focus on being a better songwriter, performer, and businessman, and hope that somebody out there feels me."
