Maxida Märak, a member of the Swedish indigenous Sami people, collaborates with one of Europe’s most prestigious bluegrass bands, Downhill Bluegrass Band. Maxida alternates modern singing with the traditional Sami/ Lappish singing, “yoik”.
Downhill Bluegrass Band are well known and highly regarded in both Europe and the USA where they have toured several times.
Downhill Bluegrass Band have been around for 15 years and have released 4 full length CD’s.
Maxida Märak from Jokkmokk is a young, promising multi-artist that is deeply rooted in the Swedish Sami indigenous people. Her artistry accommodates anything from traditional Sami handicraft, theater and singing in both traditional and modern design. When Maxida gets time she will also give lectures about Sami culture. Her boyfriend has traditional reindeer herding as a profession
