From: TN, United States
Genre: Folk, Americana, Alt-Country
My great-great-grandfathers fought on both sides of the Civil War. The Unionists died in Andersonville prison, the CSA's death camp. The Rebs rode with the 7th TN Cavalry.
I'm not sure if either side was musical, but my dad could play Fats Waller on the piano and my brother Sam has played with Superdrag and Guided by Voices.
I collaborate with Tommy Spurlock (Austin-based producer/steel-guitarist who learned Sneaky Pete Kleinow's setup). Through Tommy I have been able to record with Sneaky, Garth Hudson (of The Band), and Jamie Oldaker (Eric Clapton).
I have also worked with Brian Ahern (Emmylou Harris' producer) and Richard Lloyd (of Television).
I try to write songs that I think no one else has bothered to write yet. That sorta puts me out of top forty, but my heroes are Townes Van Zandt, Warren Zevon, Randy Newman, Richard Thompson and others.
William Blake was a damn good songwriter--I wrote a dissertation on him.
If you've read this far, thanks for checking me out and I'll hope you'll join me on facebook where I augment the natural insanity.
