LOTUS is an indie female band from Vancouver/ Squamish, BC. Their music is an up-tempo mix of lyrical realism, winsome vocals, and sleek musical grooves...a fusion creating a uniquely Canadian sound.
The band recently released their second self-produced album Under The Sun, following the release of their debut album Better Day in 2003. Recorded in Bryan Adams's studio, Under the Sun features songs that are currently receiving regular airplay, and includes a video of the title track made by the producer of the X-Files television series. Several cuts from Under the Sun are slated to form the soundtrack for an upcoming show on the Food Network, and the band members have been asked to make guest appearances as part of the cast.
LOTUS brought their grooves to the AB/BC Tour this Summer. They played a string of dates throughout Alberta and BC in support of their new CD, with their launch at the famous Railway Club in Vancouver. They plan to tour in Europe in the upcoming year. Lotus was self-represented at MIDEM 2008 to promote the band on an international level. The band has had over 9 years of performing experience together, having played shows and festivals across Western Canada and the US. They have a great stage presence, and thier music is appealing to a broad range of audiences.
The members chose the name Lotus, as in “Lotus Land” to represent their home. Lotus has many meanings - a Buddhist quote says, “lotus is the purity that come from nothing more than dirt, humble beginnings”. Historically, B.C. was nick-named “lotus land” as many people arrive with intentions of visiting, only to never return home. And so it is with Lotus.
Both their albums are available at CDBaby.com and iTunes (and off the stage at their shows!). The band was featured in AMMA’s A’nR magazine in January 2009, with international distribution. With this publication they also released their new single “Easy”, which will be featured on their third album (recording in progress).
Feona, the lead vocalist, is originally from Edmonton, Alberta, and has been singing and writing since a very young age. John was in a group called Psychic Cowboys in Austin, Texas, now has a solo career as Psychic Cowboy. Elizabeth, of Victoria BC, is a singer/songwriter, who studied piano at the Royal Conservatory. Rachael was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and holds music degrees in piano and flute and learned drums while managing a music school.
