Lena Katina, along with Julia Volkova, was the musical duo known as t.A.T.u, an international recording sensation that sold upwards of 10 million records worldwide. With t.A.T.u., Lena toured the world while reigning as the charting topping act in Europe with their number 1 single All the Things She Said and their follow-up smash Not Gonna Get Us. With t.A.T.u Lena became the first artist to ever receive the IFPI Europe platinum award for the same album in two different languages while her album 200 Kilometers in the Wrong Lane went platinum several times over. Lena received the MTV Legend Award for her work with t.A.T.u.
Lena Katina was born in Moscow on October 4th to artistic parents. Her father Sergey Katin was a famous producer-songwriter and the creator of Dyuna, an extremely popular pop band in the 1980s and into the 1990s. Lena’s mother, also an accomplished musician, studied at the music university in Russia.
Encouraged by her parents, at the age of 4 Lena began exploring her artist talents, engaging in figure skating, swimming, gymnastics, acting classes, and horseback riding before settling upon music school.
Lena began playing piano when she was four. She entered music school to study classical piano at age 6. By 9 Lena was in a children’s band called Avenue. This is when she began her performance career as a singer. At the age of 12 Lena joined the group Neposedy, a band she would leave at age 14 to audition for t.A.T.u.
Lena was an international recording star at age 15 with her hit All The Things She Said. The video for All the Things She Said was filmed one month before Lena turned 16.
While pursuing her musical career, Lena managed to complete her university studies at the Moscow Social Humanitarian University where she majored in Psychology.
In 2011 Lena embarked on her solo career. She packed her bags and moved from Moscow to Los Angeles, the epicenter of the music world. Her first solo release, Never Forget, has received positive critical reviews and is still making its way up the charts globally while the remix of Never Forget was number 1 on the Billboard Chart, pushing Madonna from the top spot. The song is currently number one and in the top 20 in numerous countries around the world.
Never Forget is just a teaser of things to come as Lena works to complete her solo album, an album that promises to surpass the achievements of t.A.T.u.
