“Singing in a satiny, impossibly old-fashioned, nearly three-octave voice, Ainsworth is the very portrait of West Coast cool." -- SomethingElseReviews.com.
Laura Ainsworth began honing her musical chops at a young age, watching her dad, legendary big band saxophonist/clarinetist Billy Ainsworth, back such idols as Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald. But her DNA also includes a wicked sense of humor. As co-founder of the Comedy Wire syndicated radio service, her parody songs have been heard on top radio shows worldwide. And BroadwayWorld.com raves that she is both "a vivid personality" and "a fine singer with an outstanding range and genuine wit."
"Keep It To Yourself" is the title of Laura Ainsworth's debut CD, now available at CDBaby.com and iTunes! It's gained worldwide radio airplay, checking in on JazzWeek's Top Airplay Chart, and garnered rave reviews. Just a sample:
“Ainsworth’s voice is sublime as it caresses top-notch musicianship by a slew of southwest jazz players…A very warm, elegant album with just enough big stage flair.” – Mario Tarradell, Dallas Morning News
“Weaves past and present with stunning power... It might not be long before Dallas is not just known for its oil, Cowboys, and J.R. Ewing but a funny lady with a jewel of a voice..." -- Robert Sutton, JazzCorner.com
“A spectacular CD!...Takes the ambiance of the '40's and '50's supper clubs/bands and elegantly mingles that feel with modern day flair.”– RadioIndy.com
"Skylark" is “transcendent...devastatingly beautiful, nakedly honest, and a powerful argument for the ageless compositions (she) so clearly treasures...” – Nick DeRiso, SomethingElseReviews.com
"Keep It To Yourself" is produced by the great jazz pianist Brian Piper of 90th Floor Records, and features his brilliant arrangements and keyboard work, along with such great artists as bassist John Adams, drummer Mike Drake, jazz violinist Milo Deering of Beatlegras, sax and clarinet master Chris McGuire and guitarists Noel Richardson and Chris Derose, a favorite accompanist for such artists as Michael Feinstein, Patti Austin and Willie Nelson.
The album features everything from contemporary tunes to Laura's unique twists on standards to obscure gems from the '20s-'50s. The title track, "Keep It To Yourself," is a hilarious female revenge fantasy in a cool, retro lounge pop/jazz style. "While The Music Plays On" dates back to big band days, but is made new again by Laura's passionate vocals and Chris McGuire's amazing sax solo. And "Skylark" features Chris McGuire accompanying Laura in a nakedly emotional take on the Hoagy Carmichael/Johnny Mercer classic, stripped to its bare essentials and recorded live in one take, with no studio wizardry to sweeten it.
We hope you enjoy this sneak preview of Laura Ainsworth's "Keep It To Yourself," recently spotlighted as the New Artist Album of the week at BluesJazzRadio.com and featured on Public Radio Exchange's "The Blues & Beyond!"
