Described as “a delightful combination of youthful imagination and tongue-in-cheek, episodic hilarity”, Lady Macbeth is among North-Western Ontario’s most eclectic rock groups. The four members, lifelong friends, started the band while they were still in high school for the sole purpose of covering a few songs. A few gigs and one triumphant Battle of the Bands victory later, the band began to showcase their talent for songwriting. What followed was a series of songs that wove tales of alienation and despair, but from unique perspectives; robots in love, self-doubting musicians, and a boy who missed out on the end of the world. It did not take long for disaffected youth of their hometown to take to these songs as a means of escape.
The band is unique in that three out of the four members are contributing songwriters, and those three members each have a different idea of what a good song should sound like. As a result, the typical Lady Macbeth show boasts post-punk energy fused with progressive guitar riffs, tightly held together by a pop structure and melodies worthy of top 40 playback.
