LOU FLUTE
Biography

From: OH, United States

Genre: World, Jazz Fusion / New Age, Electronica

Lou (Flute) Hohl, was born in Santa Monica, California and grew up in South Central Los Angeles. By the time Lou was 13 years of age, he was able to read and play music on the accordian, guitar, flute, clarinet and tenor saxophone and had performed in youth concerts at the Shrine Auditorium and the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. He eventually would perform with R&B legends Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, and produce rap and gospel records for independent record companies distributed by CEMA. In 1982 Louis began studying with Bill Green and Buddy Collett in Los Angeles, two of the top woodwinds in the nation at the time and got some really good exposure to bands like Nelson Riddle's and Gerald Wilson's Big Bands. Bill's influence and training would change Louis' approach to playing the flute teaching him how to blow a richer sound and how to create more colorful chromatic and harmonic themes. Motivated by an advertising degree from West Los Angeles College in 1983, Lou experimented with creating musical themes and advertising slogans. His perseverance and skill in writing catchy melodies caught the attention of Ernie Kloetzly, Creative Director for international advertising agency, J. Walter Thompson,USA. In 1987 Lou produced his first professional jingle for KACE Radio which aired for several months. Lou was married in 1991 and due to the fierce competitiveness of the music industry was forced to work in sales. In 2007 Lou started writing again and performed at a local event in town and immediately was recognized as a wonderful talent. Lou was referred to local Orchestra conductor Fred Wheatt and became a member of the Melting Pot orchestra and performs regularly with them at bookstores through out Cleveland such as Borders, Tri-C, Cleveland State, and several churches and schools. Lou started collaborating with his eldest son Louis Hohl, III aka " "Protaje", owner and producer with Strike II Entertainment finishing up his new CD called The Aquarius Project with a Jazzy mix of contemporary themes of Hip Hop, Soul and Electronica.
