Born in Goldsboro, NC….Kirby Hamilton aka “PHUNKPLAYAH” has been involved in the music industry by way of Musician, Producer, Artist, Composer, Music Teacher and Songwriter While specializing in “Ol Skool Funk & Classic R&B, Hamilton also explores Smooth Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Latin Jazz, and Jazz Funk. He received his Bachelors in Music Education from Winston-Salem State University. His introduction to music came in the area of drums, but through the years he moved on to various instruments such as Vibes, Bass, Keyboards/Synths...and Talkbox. "Phunk" combines his love for Funk with his love for Jazz, be it Smooth Jazz...Latin Jazz..EZ Listening Instrumentals...Contemporary and Swing Jazz...and of course JazzFunk. His audience finds his style of music to be perfect for riding while on the highway, while others seem to lean toward the hot tub and headphone environment. The choice is up to you. Hamilton has shared the stage with such artists as Bootsy’s Rubber Band, The Emotions, Frankie Beverly and Maze, The Dramatics, One Way, Ice Cube, Marvin Gaye, Roger & Zapp, Aaron Mills of Cameo, Kevin Murphy of Rufus, Herbie Mann, and Art Blakely. In 1978 he recorded with platinum recording artists "Brick" (Atlanta based Funk Band). Phunk also performed on the multi-platinum debut CD of Snoop Dog’s “Doggystyle” in the early 90s, produced by the legendary Dr. Dre.
