Decades: Too old to be on American Idol
Jeremy Kay Jeremy Kay has been making records since the mid 90’s. Based in Southern California, he spent roughly seven years with the indie label Surfdog Records. On Surfdog, he enjoyed mostly regional success and a myriad of TV and film placements, including songs on ‘Step into Liquid’, ‘The Wedding Planner’ and ‘Scrubs.’ Kay’s tune ‘Have it All’ has even managed a kind of ‘bubbling under’ success, due to its inclusion on the Scrubs Soundtrack record. At the heart of J. Kay’s music is an organic blend of thoughtful lyrics, soulful grooves and sing-able melodies. And though Kay’s music has been compared to other soulful SoCal troubadors (see Jack Johnson and G Love), his sound is very much his own. His latest effort, ‘Energy’, features much of his trademark groove, but with some twists in instrumentation, featuring horns on several tracks. And with the help of producer Andre De Santanna, he achieves something close to ‘old school’ on tracks such as ‘Can’t Wait Till Tomorrow’ and ‘Need a Friend.’ Recently, Kay’s tunes could be heard on such popular TV shows as ‘Samantha Who’ and ‘Cupid.’ Currently, Jeremy is about half-way finished with a follow-up EP, and hopes to begin playing shows in support of it this summer ’09.
