So many bands today are primarily driven by layered guitars, which is hard to compete with in today's mainstream music scene. Yet, HBH manages to boldly drive it's sound with the piano and still produce a modern energy that listeners can easily "dig in" to. The ability to play muse to someone's emotions, make them feel like dancing or even just relate to their experiences is to say that you're doing more than just making music.
The song themes are intimately engaging while others are simply fun. Seth Magill's earnest, indie vocal stylings undoubtedly capture one's attention while Shawn, Baines and Ryan's instrumental work seems to cover the ground that often requires many more musicians. In essence, Home By Hovercraft is a rock band making beautiful music.
The band formed in Austin, TX in the summer of 2009 after Seth and Shawn Magill moved from Dallas to Austin Texas seeking a new start to their music careers. Drummer Baines Kinnison moved to the Lone Star state soon after and the trio seemed fated to meet and make music together. The band eventually found peace with Ryan Lindsay earning the bass spot. Now complete, the band has taken the songwriting that began at Seth and Shawn's Dallas home years earlier and expanded it into a stand-out sound. The magic and potential being found in old and new music has the band captivated and excited about the future.
Keeping busy in the nation's live music capital has a been a welcomed challenge and the band has quickly found itself among Austin's most vibrant and original up-n-coming band. Home By Hovercraft is currently performing live all over Texas in support of their debut recording "SEAMS". This 4-song EP is a glimpse into the softer side of the band, yet it takes the listener on a very cinematic journey through love, hope and change. The introspection that comes with those life experiences is the approach and key message that reoccurs throughout the record.
