Fans of Mid-80's Metal will find plenty to sink their teeth into here. Metal of this period was marked by a blending of the guitar histrionics exemplified by British metal bands like Saxon, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard with the more melodic, pop-friendly aspects of the LA glam-metal scene. Highwire covers both bases. Guitarist Kevin Blakita is the star of the show, as his fluid, speed picked notes and sweeping arpeggios recall metal virtuosos like Dokken's George Lynch and Mathias Jabs of the Scorpians. Blakita rips. Rick Reczek fits the metal crooner mold perfectly. His full-throated vocals echo Don Dokken's melodic posturings and recall a time when metal singers were required to sing, rather than scream or... God forbid... rap.
