“ Gene Autry was the greatest of the western stars and the most versatile. He could ride, shoot, act, sing, play a guitar, and was a successful businessman as well. The other singing cowboys followed in his footsteps but he set the pace. He was also a great American patriot leaving his very successful movie career whe he was at the top to fight ofr his country in World War 2 while John Wayne, Roy Rogers and others stayed home making movies and money. ”
