Gary Hood has been kicking around the music industry for a while. Through the years, he has tirelessly & doggedly pursued his musical passion, all the while striving to find his own voice, coming out the other end a battle tested troubadour. Absorbing influences ranging from the pop majesty of The Beatles, the poetry of Bob Dylan, to the blues growl Tom Waits, Gary has forged a nuanced take on American Roots music crafting songs that are subtle, homespun and heartfelt.
In 2003, a Gary Hood composition entitled "Opium Hotel" was recorded by Kory Clarke (the lead singer of the influential 90's hard rock band Warrior Soul) for the title track of his critically acclaimed debut solo album. (Hood's version of "Opium Hotel" has just been released...see below).
In 2006, Gary Hood was featured in a documentary performing his song "Sibel Edmonds". The film, "Une Femme a Abattre" (Kill the Messanger), is a story about an FBI whistleblower which was produced by the Canal+ network of France and has been screened and broadcast internationally.
Gary has just released a 5 song EP entitled "The Last Show Ever (vol.1)" (available on iTunes). The music is an eclectic blend of Folk, Blues & Rock with a Pop sensibility...reminiscent of Dylan, Lou Reed, The Dead & The Band. Gary's brand of stripped down beat 'n boogie is on full display as the warmth and honesty of his songs shine through. With this record Gary Hood has successfully demonstrated why he is an indie artist that matters...turn it up loud and soak it in!
