There are singers, entertainers, writers, soul searchers and survivors. Many people are one or the other but only a special few can combine all into one unique musical point of view. Chris Ayries stands dead center at the crossroads where all of these pursuits collide.
Growing up in Ontario, singing came just as easily, and necessary, as breathing. Chris now resides in Calgary, Alberta, but in between the formative years and present day,
she’s been around the world and then some. The sheer power of her voice alone has enough "wow factor" to win over the most jaded critic , but that’s only half of the story. When it’s time for nuance and quiet intensity, Ayries is right there as well. Her influences range from Annie Lennox to Stevie Nicks to Elton and Tina. Etta to Janis to Eva Cassidy. There are bits of all of them in there yet her sound is completely her own. From singing for the troops in Bosnia to belting it out hard in the studios of Nashville, every mile on the road has added another seasoning to the musical stew and added to her momentum.
And speaking of "Momentum", that just happens to be the title of her latest CD project. Her writing style appeals to many listeners. It’s rock, it’s folky country, it’s rootsy old school R&B and it’s most assuredly pure soul. But don’t worry about trying to label it, just enjoy it. As a matter of fact, I dare you not to. In every aspect of life, love and music it’s all about the "Momentum".Chris Ayries has it and you need it.
