Before he wrote songs, Charlie was a jewel thief. Upon breaking into one home to steal some fancy jewelry, he noticed a guitar lying about. He stole the guitar, went home and immediately began writing songs with no training at all. It was shortly after that that Charlie became lead singer of the band called the Businessmen From Mars which had a great deal of success.
