Without knowing a word of English, frontman Jesse Lee Jones left his native Brazil in 1985 to pursue his dream of making a music career in America. Despite being robbed and losing his guitar he managed to make his way to Nashville. When Jesse Lee began playing Lower Broadway in the spring of 1995, Robert Moore (founder of Roberts Western World) recognized his talent and offered him a job. Members of BR-549 (RWW’s former house band) soon dubbed Jesse Lee “the Brazilian Hillbilly” which quickly morphed into the band’s name – Brazilbilly.
You can catch the band playing traditional Country music every Friday and Saturday night in Downtown Nashville. Everyone Wants To Dance With My Girl is Brazilbilly’s first original single.
In the years since Brazilbilly was formed, the band has gained much popularity and recognition. In addition to being house band at Roberts Western World, they have played many other venues and events, including playing for Vice President Al Gore on Election Night 2000. The band has toured Europe, hosted the live radio broadcast of “The Midnight Jamboree” from the Ernest Tubb’s Texas Troubador Theater, played the Grand Ole Opry Plaza and opened for many major country music acts.
Jesse Lee was recently interviewed for the BBC series Musical Migrants and his unique story will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and the World Service in October 2011.
