About B. Satinover

From: IL, United States

Genre:
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Ambient, Soundtracks

Bruce has been a staple of the Chicago area since 1972, playing various styles of progressive and experimental rock. His early influences ranged from Frank Zappa to Ted Nugent compositionally and changed with the more sophisticated artists he was exposed to, in particular Wishbone Ash's twin guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell. To this day Satinover uses a Flying V guitar similar to Powell's. Other artists included Robert Fripp's various incarnations of King Crimson, jazz guitar heros Bill Frisell and David Torn who's multilayered soundscapes were of a similar nature to Satinover's work. Bruce joined a heavily booked Punk band in 1978. In many respects that music was as intense to play as Progressive Rock with multiple time signatures that could be danced to. Bruce's growing fascination with electronic music along with unique ways of playing guitar, bass and multiple "Ethnic" instruments which he used in occasional solo work and recordings based from '72 through 2008. In the 1990's Bruce played under several musical psuedenyms Including "The Eventual Font Named Bruno" or "TEFNB" for short, "Painshop", "Gruppo Negativ", "B. Satinover", "Vivendi D' Nasty" along with many collaborative efforts, "Band 20" with Tim Daniel being his favourite and the bands "GrumpyMope", post grunge and electronics, "X Space", Electronic and looping devices using 100% improvised material and "A Band Called Gus" Nihilistic prankster rock and electronic that featured lyrical subject matter that was disturbing to the band but seemed to be taken seriously: resulting in a full CD and 25 minute EP. Critics of Satinover's guitar work complimented "Some of the finest guitar work we've heard this year (1993, GrumpyMope, Finally, "Weight of the World") leading up to an epic slow burn. With the Chicago Entertainer noting, "Some of the best damn guitar work we've heard this year.", while X Space was noted for it's "...fine keyboard work. If we weren't told these songs were jams we would have thought they were written and rehearsed, which is the sign of great improvising." By 2001 all live work ceased as did the bands Bruce was associated with. "It was a hard thing to do as I love playing live, but I was diagnosed with Multipule Sclerosis and a couple of months later, Fibromyalgia". Both diseases had disabled Bruce since 1989 but took a major turn for the worse in 2002 and remain in their current state of relapse. These days Bruce works on solo music of the electric and experimental type, using the familiar styles when he was in a band. He also reviews virtual synthesizers and after his first new album in five years, TRAUMA, he will switch back to his rock roots, most likely with some surprises. "I dabble a bit in programming" Satinover mentioned, "and have some ideas for making life easier for disabled musicians, particularly those with physical problems. My right hand has lost considerable coordination", Bruce says. "As the result, my picking hand is in terrible condition. Similarly, it's really hard to play keyboards. The simplest parts are challenging. But by making some adjustments, I can still play relatively capably, it just takes working at it more dilligently. It's hard to feel sorry for myself as in my connections with others on the internet I've met people that can't even move their hands, and yet they make incredible music. I'm at a point in life where I'd prefer helping others than selling my image, not that it's wrong or evil, every musician has to do this to some degree if they want to work. "My hope is to help disabled artists work more efficiently and minus their pain, discomfort and obstacleles. Who knows, maybe this will get them back on stage." Humaninhuman Records is proud to associate with B Satinover. "This is almost exactly the model I've been looking for between a label and their artists" said Satinover, "I respect and enjoy my label mates. Management is wonderfully hands-on and takes a proactive position with us all."
