Why do you play artists I haven't added to my station?
Jango is all about making online music easy, fun, and social - a free social music service that lets you create your own custom radio stations and share them with friends and others who like what you like.
Just type in what you want to hear - and your station will play the music you want along with similar favorites of other Jango users who share your taste. You can customize your stations further by adding more artists and rating songs.
You can also tune in to any other station playing on Jango. As you listen, your player will show other people listening to the same artist. You can "tune in" to any song they're listening to, message each other or share your stations with others. Or just go to any Artist Page to see all songs by that artist you can tune in to at any given time!
Is Jango free?Oh yes! Totally free.
Do I have to download anything?Nope, no download necessary. You can access Jango from any broadband connected computer anywhere. Even from work, if your boss doesn't mind or isn't looking.
How does Jango work?Customize your stations To create a station, just type in an artist you want to hear - and your station will start with a popular song by that artist. You can create new stations from the box below the Jango logo in the top left corner of every page - or from the New Station tab on the middle of your home page.
You can customize your stations further by adding more artists and rating songs. The more you do both, the "smarter" your stations will get. Your added artists will play a lot; similar artists a little. The more artists you add, the more you will hear those and the less you will hear similar artists.
On the edit station page, you can add artists you want to play, and ban artists you don't want to play. You can also quickly rate all songs by a certain artist, so that your favorite songs will play more and other songs will play less, (or if you ban them, not at all) - or you can simply rate songs as they play. You can get to the edit station page from the "My Stations" dropdown in the player or from the "My Stations" box on the left side of your home page.
Tune in to others You can also tune in to other people's stations -- and they can tune in to you! Whenever you tune in to someone, your face will be highlighted in that person's player. When someone tunes in to you, he/she will be highlighted in your player.
Anywhere you see a play button, you can tune in. For example, the faces in your player are other Jango users listening to the same or similar artist as you. You can "tune in" to any song they're listening to. Or if you're looking for specific songs by an artist, just go to any Artist Page to see all songs by that artist that you can tune in to at any given time!
Meet people who like what you like Everyone on Jango has a personal "profile page", which shows their music taste and favorites. To make it more fun and social, most people also upload a picture and post some information about themselves.
You can find people's profiles by browsing the "people" section, or check out the "Like-Minds" (people with the most similar music taste to you) on you Jango Home. Or check the faces in your player. Wherever you see a user picture, you can go check out their profile, tune in to their stations (and send them a "thank you" when you're done), send messages or ask them to become your Jango friends.
How can I contact Jango? To contact us, please go to the Contact page.

What are "Friends"?Friends are users on Jango who have granted each other special status. One user sends another a "friend request", the other person accepts it and on and on. How do I add a "Friend"?You can add a friend by going to that user's page and clicking "Friend Request." As soon as that person has accepted your friend request, you're friends and can shout to each other's players, get listed on each other's friends list, and even be friends with their friends.
If I decline a friend request or delete a friend, will he/she find out?No one will be sent any notice about your declining or removing him/her. The only way they will know is that you never show up as their friend (if you decline a request) or that they're no longer listed as one of your friends (if you delete an existing friend).
What are "Thank You's?"When you tune out of someone's station, you can choose to send an automatic "thank you for your station" to that person - a fun and easy way let someone know you appreciated their music.
If you receive a "thank you" from someone, it means that person tuned in to one of your stations and liked it so much they decided to "thank you" for it. Pretty nice. You might even want to reply with a "you're welcome"...

Emails -- Private messages between two users that show up in your Email Inbox on Jango.

Here's how Jango's music selection works: Your Jango stations play the artists you add, along with similar artists favored by other Jango users who share your taste. Can I create more than one station? Most definitely, you can have as many stations as you want! A lot of our users like to make different stations for different genres, moods, parties, and even acting as office DJ. You can also title your stations anyway you like. For example, you can have an "R&B station", an "It's Pop and I like it", a "Some People Still Like Country" or a "My broken heart loves Sad Songs"... and why not a "My Hair Bands Station Rocks Harder than Yours" station... the possibilities are endless...

The more artists you add, the more you will hear those and the less you will hear similar artists.

The Music Discovery Control gives you three options:
- Popular Favorites: Plays mostly your own favorites and popular artists and songs.
- Happy Medium: A little bit of both.
- Wide Variety: Plays a wider variety of lesser known and popular music.
On Jango, everyone can "tune in" and listen to anybody else's station. This means that at any given time, you can "tune in" and listen to any song currently playing on any of the stations created on Jango. For example, go to any Artist Page to see all songs by that artist you can tune in to at any given time, there are usually lots of them!
When you're tuning out of someone's station, you can also send an automatic "thank you" to that person, which is a fun and easy way let someone know you appreciated their music.

Click "Share" to get a link to the song you're currently listening to - that you can IM or email to anyone you want so they can listen to it too! When your friends click the link, they will get to a Jango page with that song (and station) playing.
How can I play a specific song?Since Jango is an Internet radio station, we must follow certain restrictions defined in a federal law called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). For example, we can't let you request a specific song on demand. The DMCA also constrains the number of times we can play the same artist or the same song within a given time period (as well as the number of songs from the same album, etc.).
However, we can let you rate songs to teach your station what to play more often -- and we can let you tune in to any song playing on any Jango station. For example, go to any Artist Page to see all songs by that artist you can tune in to at any given time, usually lots of them.
Why can't I play a song again if I've just heard it?Since Jango is an internet radio station, we must follow certain restrictions defined in a federal law called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). For example, we can't let you go back and re-play a song you've just heard, since that would be considered music on demand.
How does rating songs (smilies) work?Rating a song teaches your station how much or how little to play it. The more songs you rate, the "smarter" your station becomes. If you "love" a song (super happy face) the song will play a lot; if you "like" a song (smiling face), it will play again; and if you "don't like" a song (frowny face) it will be banned from playing ever again on any of your stations.
You can rate songs from your player as you listen, or from the edit station page where you can quickly rate all songs by a certain artist.
Can I ban songs from playing?Yes, you can ban songs from playing by clicking on the "frowny face" icon in your player. On the edit station page, you can also quickly rate all songs by a certain artist and if you ban them, they will never play again on any of your stations.
How can I buy songs? If you feel like buying a song you're listening to, just click the "Buy" button in your player and we'll take you to that song's page on iTunes or Amazon.
If you want to buy other songs than the one currently playing, go to any Artist Page and click on albums.
Can I download songs? No, you can't download any songs from Jango -- we're strictly a custom online radio service. But you can create as many stations as you like, rate songs to teach your station what to play more often and tune in to any song playing anywhere on Jango. For example, go to any Artist Page to see all songs by that artist you can tune in to at any given time, usually lots of them.
If you still really want to download a specific song, just click "Buy" in your player and we'll take you to that song's page on iTunes or Amazon.
You can access Jango from any broadband connected computer anywhere. During the Public Beta, Jango works on the following browsers:

For now, we kindly ask all our Mac users to use Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and up. Download here
The player stops playing or skips? We know, we're sorry. This is a known bug that happens sometimes -- and we're working hard on fixing it. In the meantime, here are a few tricks to get the player going again:
- Try hitting "Stop" and then "Play" again
- Switch to another station
- Try "restarting" the player by hitting the "F5" key on your keyboard or by right-clicking somewhere on the player (but not on a graphic) and selecting "Refresh" from the menu choices offered.
