Many overseas people are quite new to Midnight Oil. We've heard a lot of their songs in the 1980s. They're OK but were never my favourite band. It's hard for me to hear "How can you sleep while our beds are burning" now. I see no Aussies in the top 6 fan list currently; I think I know why. (The rest of the band weren't reponsible for Garrett's irresponsibility. He's was all too vocally critical back then - but still lacks action & any solution).
The lead singer Peter Garrett has been a politician for about 12 or 15 years now. First he was the leader of The Greens but switched to the ALP. Then he betrayed our last P.M, who covered up all 3 of Peter's negligent mistakes. Last year as the Minister for Environment he made his 3rd, but worst, mistake. He failed to be vigilant over the Home Insulation Program where greedy & unqualified roof insulators wasted millions of dollars of taxpayers' money and got 4 young apprentices electrocuted in separate sites. (Electrical wires are in roofs here). Many houses burnt down, & some families were killed at night in fires. Garrett didn't apologise, turn up to funerals, or pay compensation to those victims' families. He's still a well-paid Minister. He's been slack & disloyal, but very lucky
